Well driving home last night i over heated. Pulled over, put more water in and it over heated again. Lossed all power had to pull over (wouldnt start) got a tow truck and they towed it to a mechanic. $140. (this is at 11:00pm lastnight) Talked to the mechanic this morning and he tells me that the engine is blown, no comp in the engine.

Now i need to find 1 engine (thinking sr20det :) but funds are bad.

Any Ideas?

Thanks

Neil

Nasty mate.

If it has no compression sounds like you have bustd pistons and or rings from detonation. You put that turbo and cooler etc on without any tune?
Will happen again if so.

If it is just the bottom end then maybe you could simply buy a short motor and do the swap yourself.

Hey, i've had the cooler on it since i bought the car (supra front mount). We checked the timing on it on sunday. It was back firing on deacceleration. But it seemed fine. Drove nicely on 14psi :D Drove it home the next day and it died. So... :( dads organising a trailer to tow it back to wagga so hes going to do the conversion for me. (well new engine in.)

Just a thought check the CAS mine blew like 2 yrs ago and it had very similar symptoms. Do a diagnostics test if you can. Other than that sorry to hear about your misfortune.

Sorry dude didn't mean to offend you. It's just my opinion that with all those nice mods you have some sort of aftermarket management would be a very good idea to make sure it was making potential power and reliable.

Your bolt ons are only as good as your tuning.

Don't worry you have my sincere sympathy.

Hey Neil,

Well it had to happen sooner or later. And man I know exactly how you feel with that cancer remark.

Even with my FMIC, I can't run 14psi without detonation. Perhaps yours was detonating but you couldn't hear it?

I'll putter around on 11 psi for now on I think... hehe

The old CA's are exactly that... old, they just cant take a thrashin that the SR's seem to be able to. Good luck with the conversion. I assume you got a new pewta and whatnot for the SR.

Sorry to hear you'll be leaving the CA family, however I know you'll look back oneday and wish the CA blew much earlier!

Dan

I've just thought of something. fix it and sell it. not bother with the sr conversion or the rb20 conversion. Fix it up and get rid of it and buy a new car  maybe a nice commodore  nar.. s14,s15 or something else. But definetly something that doesnt cause me so much headaches. maybe a push bike?

You can get a CA18DET cheaper than that, I know someone who blew her CA18DET and got a really good one for $1000 and then she just got it put in :)

Yep I think that's what you should do. Spend the extra money that would have gone into the SR on the CA and you will be way ahead.

I love my CA :D
