I find that revving to around 5500rpm is more than enough most of the time - that will generally give you the next gear at around 4000-4500 which is right in the meaty bit of the SR20DET torque curve.

I think of the extra 2000rpm available as a bit of a buffer thats useful for example when you're giving the car heaps around a corner and its not exactly convenient to change gear until you're back on a straight bit.


I'm thinking a decent 3" exhaust will probably let the engine breathe a bit better in the top end?
