Hey guys,
I'm new to the forums and looking at getting into a 180sx as soon as I sell up my car. There's one that I'm keen on but it has the black moulds/stripping along the sides. Is it a quick fix to remove it or do I have to have it resprayed across basically all the panels?
Also is there much difference reliability-wise between a s13 redtop and s13 blacktop? Or is it just a case of variance between each car and how they've been treated?

Thanks heaps

The only difference between the red and black top in the s13 is the emissions control stuff I think. The cams are the same, as for the moulds, post some pics so people can see.

that black strip is just pretty much close to black electrical tape, just leave your car out on a nice sunny day for a while and peel it off, it wont strip the paint or anything....

Excellent, thanks.
Can't wait to get my hands on one now. Hopefully my car will sell soon so that I can buy a 180.
Are there any known/common problems/issues to look out for when buying, or just the usual?

Listen to the engine when your revving, look out for funny noises, take it for a drive, how is the clutch? how does it drive, what other mods are there? check for rust, uneven panels etc etc to give you a clue if its been in an acco or not, rev's check it ....so on and so on! do a search too in the forums, its a great tool!

Yeah I have been reading around in the forums lately. I've wanted to go nissan for a while now but have become serious about it only recently. If it only stopped raining... I could sell my car and go look for others :P

Just check the usual stuff.. Have a look over the following:

Leaky brakes/suspension/power steering etc...
Check that all the electronics work (lights/sunroof/windows/mirrors)
Check the aircon/heater to see if they operate correctly, put your weight on each corner of the car, bounce it up and down to see if theres any weird noises...

take it for a drive!

Test the brakes on your test drive.
On a quiet back street, cruise at about 50 or 60kph and stomp on the brakes as if a car pulled out in front of you.
it'll give you some indication on how the brakes/suspension handle those sticky moments...or if they just lock up & slide.
