Hi guys, I need to change my rears and was wondering what would be the best size in your opinion? Currently I have 235/40/17, should I keep this size or should I pick another one? Cheers Kostya |

i have 235/45/17 on my rims at the rear, got a S15 there is also a tyre calculator in the technical area on the main index of the site... |

I wouldn't go over a 225 on an 8 inch rim. Any smaller and it will be a bit stretched (which is ok up to a point), Any bigger and it will start to bulge out a bit (which i'm not a fan of). |

235s sit with square sidewalls on an 8" wide rim. 235/40/17 will be slightly smaller than stock rolling diametre, whereas a 235/45/17 will be slightly larger. I use 235/45/17 personally. |

235/45/17 - as the local falcodores use this size alot, should prove to be easier in find the right tyre as its common. |

There are other things you can look at into tyre performance first, rather then a 5% decrease in profile size. You can try buying better compound for a start before anything else |

you can go down to 215 on 8" (I have this right now on the fornt of mine) but the sidewalls taper a bit. 235/40 were on before and were just right IMHO. A 45 section gives rubbing problems if you've lowered your car. Cheers, Rich |

wouldnt a slightly stretched tyre provide better turn in response due to less tyre wall flex at a higher G turning? |

Sure would. Ive gone from 225/40/18 on an 8.5" rim to 225/50's on a 16x7.5 rim and the amount of sidewall movement at high speed gets a bit scarey since there was none with the previous stretched tyres on bigger rims |

that's assuming that you're not overcoming the grip level of the tread itself already. factory recommended width for an 8" rim is a 235. I run 235/45/R17's all 'round on my wagon,and they work well enough. this is also a common-as size,so they're cheaper to come by. Justin... |
