If you like the white and black theme then you'll be painting the roof black? 8)

Now I've got the car ready I headed off to the local mountain road to "test" it a bit. Its about 12km of switchback up and down roads that are generally very quiet and well known as the local drift and racetrack in the small hours. Name is the Yahiko Skyline and it has a car park at the top where these pics were taken.

I got up there with just enough time for a couple of shots as the sun went down over the sea of Japan. Sometimes its pretty cool living on the west coast.....

Also I stopped on one section, the road was almost black with rubber

Hahaha, been some good drifting there, so I laid a few lines myself and headed off home in the dark, a nice drive out! First race in Japan and with the 180SX is tomorrow, I've entered the open turbo class with a barely modified 180 on road tyres, should be fun against race prepped 500ps skylines on slicks.

Cheers,
Rich

The latest bits arrived yesterday, a nice new set of Bridgestone RE55SR2 circuit tyres. Between the brakes and these tyres I hope to get 4 seconds a lap off....

You'll hate me even more after this then.........

Today my new 3 core radiator arrived:

The plan is to fit this on Saturday before the next race on Sunday. Hopefully it will sort the running temperature out. If not the front impact bar will be coming off and a big hole cut in the front bumper. I'd also like to find some bonnet vents to cut holes in but I've not found any yet. Anyway, hopefully the rad by itself will be enough.

To be honest I've not spent that much to get a track ready 220hp car with good brakes and tyres, with a spare set of wheels. Overall my mods stand me at 420000yen (aus$4700 ish) and 370000yen (aus$ 3900) for the car, that gives a total of about aus$8600 on the circuit, £3600. Pretty cheap I reckon. Check out my vehicle garage for a list of mods. Rather than head for bling names stuff (HKS, Blitz etc) I've bought non name stuff that does the job, and second hand where poss. I'm only in Japan for another year and wanted to get the car done quickly so I can get the use out of it. Hence the fast rate of mods! A water temp gauge and a boost controller are about the only other mods planned I think. The rest will be spent on race entries 8)

Cheers,
Rich

  it may be cheap, but the trade-off is my 32km drive to work every day the maximum speed limit on the whole journey is 60km/h :-? Most is 40km/h. I have touched the speed limiter from time to time though...

Any plans to take the 180 back to the UK?

To be honest I don't know where I'm going after Japan, it will most likely be France or the UK. The shaken on it runs out the month after I'm due to return (Oct 2007) so its most likely I'll end up taking the race bits off that I can, selling them to a second hand car parts shop, then giving the car away to get rid of the liability for it. I'm not sure I can be bothered with all the costs/paperwork to get it into the UK as when its there it will only get stolen.

Either way there will probably be a very cheap 180 up for sale at the end of next year, race parts or not.

I'm not Richard Ling though, never heard of him :-?
