You should get it when you can use it.
Why buy something now and allow it to depreciate/run out of rego etc?
There is no reason to buy one now and every reason to wait.

Theres a huge difference from when you can get it, and when you should get it.

Financially you might have the money for the initial purchase, this is when you can buy it. But really, it's smart to buy it when you are able to drive it, when you have enough money to support the car mechanically without surviving on water and rice. It's just a matter of smarts, no one's stopping you from buying your car! thats your choice man.. even though you're a car enthusiast, it doesn't mean you have to put your financial status at a risk just to own a nice car.. you know what i mean? all the best with your decision.

Tell ya what i've just bought a 1997 180 with blacktop sr20det. Cost me $16k with rego.

I'm only 19 and still on green p's without the restrictions. If you had ur red p's before 11 july 2005 you'll also have no restrictions so you'll b fine with a F/IND model.

But like all the other guys said wait and save. I've been running around in a N13 pulsar that actually was in bloody good nic for $1800. And yeah i've been waiting 3 years and its killed me but its now paying off and was all worth it!!!!

Another way you might want to consider buy the DET, take the turbo off for the time being, yes there will be cost involved but buying another car you will loose money too.

so this is your first car? you want to buy a 15yr old imported turbo car on the cheap,as you don't have much money atm ($7k is about half what a good quality 180 costs),and admit that you can't save cash. can't you see any problems with all of that?

like several others on here,I suggest you buy something cheaper like a pulsar or civic (FYI I'm trying to sell one atm as well) and just drive it for a year or two. if you still believe that you want a 180sx after that period, then you're serious and will put the work in to save the money to buy one. if not, then you've saved yourself a LOT of money in the meantime, and haven't lost anything.

every other kid you speak to these days says he wants a skyline or a silvia for his first car,but there's a lot more to owning them than most of them realise. they're NOT cheap cars, and they're not as reliable as you may think. drifting may be the 'in' thing atm,but most of them would be far better off in a std corolla. they're reliable, easy to get parts for, cheap to run,and cheap to insure. silvias are none of these.

i think they are fairly cheap and reliable, only if the car is good to start with.
A shit car will end up costing a fortune to run, maintain, repair and ultimately to replace.

This is only from my experience, maybe i've been lucky because theres plenty of horror stories out there

Dude, I stopped myself flaming you for digging up the other thread... But if its a rediculously old thread and his signature now has a car stated in it - just a hunch here - maybe he's sorted it out

Its good that youre reading old threads to learn what you can without posting new threads - but try not to dig up old stuff if its not important...
