hey all
basically what im trying to achieve is a sleepy eye height but as the full height. so wen the lights are turned on normally they only go up half way. reason for this is im using some other lights and i only want it to be half open.

i did a search but only got links for how to do a sleepy conversion.

has any one done it? does it make sense wat i mean??

http://upload.silviansw.com/Image05.jpg

ok that pic is what im trying to achieve, but so thats my full height and when i turn the lights on it goes to that height, and wen they are turned off they go back to normal.

cheers mick

Are you saying you want the sleepy eye look for your new lights but don't want too do a sleepy eye conversion?

If you do the sleepy eye thing you will get the half height you want.

That was a quick response.

basically i want to limit how much the light goes up, so that when at the new "full height" its actually half height.
the impression from sleepy eyes that i got is that u have to adjust th height every time. i need it to be one height as my lights will be like the one in the pic.

is that any clearer?

hmmm im just thinking how to make it clearer.... i want to limit how much the light will lift and know that it will not go past that height.

maybe you can custom fabricate the arm which raises / lowers the light, so that make it shorter it only raises a little ?

keioffice: yeh mate, thats exactly wat i was trying to say, i just couldnt think of how to word it

Balistic:
Yeh i was thinking i might have to do something like that,

i know there is that "turnbuckle" on the side but i doubt it will have enough travel in it to get the height i need, but ill see.

i just wanted to know if some one has done it before.

yeh, ive pulled the lights out.

most of the screws are for minor adjustment for when at full height, i might have to make up a bar shortend bar from the motor to the light so it doesnt get as much lift.

it seems like alot of work, but as most ppl know 180 lights are pretty average. so im using these driving lights similar to those that you get with the fixed headlight set up from garage -13

I was under the impression that when you do the conversion as pictured, the lights are fixed and cannot go down either.

Maybe the new lenses get in the way of the lights retracting fully.

yeh i did look at that, i thought they may hit, but to get around this i was going to set them back in a bit, im hoping to use the same mounting position as the stock lights.

theres actually easier way to control the default height of lights without any custom work … looks dodgy but I thought it might help

If u decide to do this though make sure to place the toggle switches some where else
The video got sub. just wait 8)

yeh ive seen that video,
thats just like a sleepy eye controller, there is no accurate way to govern how high it goes, its just how quick you flick the switch. with this set up they still go to factory full height.

ok guys... progress :D

ive been working on and off this for a while, there is no easy or accurate way to do this mechanically, so im doin it electrically.

as most of you know ppl use the pink and black wire from the timer box to get sleepy eyes, they use a momentary switch which basically cuts the power until the timer is finished. the pink wire controls the downward motion.

im doin a similar thing but i need to control the upwards movment, basically trick it to make it think they are all the way up.

after reading the wiring diagram and doin some testing ive found the wire i need. im goin to use a microswitch positioned at the light so that wen the light gets to the right height it will cut the power...

i havent done it yet but it will work :D:D:D

then comes the fun part hooking up my new lights :D

wen im doing it ill take some pics and i might write up and article on how to do it... only prob is that than ppl will copy my idea and i wont be the only one :( but i dont mind.

anyways ill let u know how i go
