Hi guys...

REcently i have encounter backfiring on my 180sx.

While on first gear trying to change to second gear at about 2.5k rpm... you will hear a backfire sound. This will not happen in higher gears...

Is this prob due to the the car is too rich in fuel?

What could be the prob?

Any advise?

Rdgs

your external BOV is probably leaking, OR you have a leak somewhere in the system. i suggest you test and clean your BOV, and/or check all your piping, if you have made any changes to anything, double check all your work.

Will BOV cause backfire?

Well, as for the piping... i don't think i have modified anything...

i have change my fuel pump quite sometimes back...

after changing... nothing of this backfire happens...
only until recently... that i have this problem...

This backfire only happen during 1st to 2nd gear changed at low rpm...
it doesn't happen at high gears or high rpm...

i believe the fuel is too rich that causes this backfire?
anyway, there is not pull back...

BOV is also considered part of the intercooler piping in the vehicle. assuming the bov activates the air that was reported to the computer as present will be purged into the atmos IF you purge it to atmos and it'll result in overfueling which results in it being dumped out.

if you had routed the bov back into the piping, thats a whole new issue.

Anyway, just to check.

Does the O2 sensor create this prob?
I took out my 02 sensor

yups, i believe it might.

removing the O2 sensor removes the signal to let the ECU adjust the fuel input when it's not WOT.

so it'll always run rich just to be safe. could explain the popping.

Are you sayin before you removed the 02 sensor it was fine then you removed it and the problem started?

If so put the f**ken 02 senser back in :D

No...

when i got the car the 02 sensor is already removed...
and it was fine...

but the backfire comes out of a sudden...

so in other words... i am not sure if the prob is created by the 02 sensor...
cause i have never touch the o2 sensor before...

:P

Jay : hahahahah........ that's gold mate.

scuba : if you're not running a mapped ECU, you could try resetting your ECU to reset the fuel trims then follow the usual procedure of letting the ECU learn about the car again.

so..... do you recall what you installed that started this popping at 2.5k?

assuming u have

atmo bov
fmic
stock injectors
upgraded fuel pump
no fuel pressure reg

does your engine exhibit any oil leaks?
