A mate of mine is iterested in making the CA18DET into a 2L. Has anyone done this here or know anything about this mod?. Second option he is looking at is using a CA20 block out of a Pintarra (i believe), with the rest of the stuff of the CA18. He is also getting forged pistons, and a T66.
Any links or info on how to get the most out of the CA or relevant to these mods would be greatly appreciated!!!.
Thanx guys :D

Yes it can be done the stroker kit takes it out to about 2.1L If its being fully rebuilt, ie. pistons rods, valvetrain, valves etc all balanced, head gasket it should all be ok. T66 sounds like a dyno queen car coz it will be utterly useless otherwise. Not many people over here have a great deal of experience building CA's so like purple said it would be easier in the long run to do the SR20.

What exactly does your mate want out of the car outright power??? look at me value??? how much power???

Nah, he wont.
Anyway SR's are overated.
He dragged a sr20det, that had a laptop hooked up in a datto 1600. I dont know wat else was done to it but i assume it was far from stock.
He drives a datto ute. They were even. And his CA was stock + fr intercooler running 6 and 15 psi. And still then it was fuken quick.

He wants power for street drags(so quarter mile times). He has parts and a couple of CA readilly available for the CA so its easier for him to do up that.Yes he will be fully rebuilding it and doing that stuff. Apparantly he can get a T66 roller bearing new for $600, and forged pistons cheap. Should he just throw them bits onto a SR? Oh and thers a few "secrets" he reckons he knows about the CA which I havnt got out of him yet. Well will be very interesting to see wat happens anyway.
As a CA is Cast Iron would that mean it would be better to play around with as it can stand up to more of a bashing?

Its his decision but the CA and SR aren't a very good choice for drag racing.

Not personally bit i read about it somewhere. Providing the people that build the block know what they are doing it shouldn't be too much of a problem as long as the original is ok. Minor hiccups are to be expected like anything car related.
