Thinking about painting the 180 matt black like the old Hot 4's project drifter...

and i want to do it myself. :o

I reckon with matt black I can't really go wrong, so a sand back of the green paint and then paint straight over the top with a few layers, no clear coat or buffing or bs like that. :)

Will but a cheap spraygun and compressor, and a cheap angle grinder or something for any bog work needed.

Any ideas people or tips to make sure it comes out ok?

I want to keep the rough expendibility that it has now where the body is already a bit scratched, so you don't really care about scratching it that much. Plus it should be easy to touch up if ever I have a drift accident or vandalism.

Feedback peoples please?

I have sprayed a car with a cheap spray gun before and let me tell you its a bitch but can be done i learnt out the hard way so here is the easy way of doing it
first of all lightly sand back the existing paint with some wet and dry this helps the paint to stick to it i recomend putting on some type of undercoat as it will produce a better finish and last longer hire the largest compressor that you can afford buy borrow beg steal some heaters heat lamps (not needed but makes for a better finish and quicker drying times) make sure that you use a 40% paint to 60% thinners ratio as this will provide a better mixture for spraying with a small compressor you can also add more thinners if needed and when spraying the paint always paint in the same direction and do what is called a dusty coat for the first few coats it looks like a fine mist has been sprayed on the car

Very helpful advice, thanks heaps.

I have done some basic painting at uni before so I know a little bit, but I'm still an amatuer.

Was planning to spend ~$300 all up on compressor, spray gun and paint. Hopefully this shoud be enough for some half decent gear.

I forgot to say but I also want to paint my stripped interior like they did in Hot 4s with some glittery hammertone paint. Apparently using a paintbrush does the job for that.

I will build a car in the style of a rough and rough Jap drift car, with just the right amount of rice. Plenty of slick S13s in Aus, but none intentionally done like this. :D

Doing a Photoshop preview today of the paint with the wheels, front bar and side skirts I will be buying. :D

Lets see hoe close I can get to it in real life.

Ok, a bit rough but a good idea. Don't knock the front bar work in Photoshop the pic I had of it was from the complete wrong perspective, so it took heaps of fiddling just to make it look like that.

What do people think? I reckon it looks very tough and cool. :D

Bought all of the items needed in the last week:

2 HP air compressor
spraygun
heaps of sandpaper
bog
angle grinder
primer 4L
matt black 4L
thinners 4L (probably need more though)

Body parts sent from JMS today, when they arrive I will do them first as my initiation. Then do the car panel by panel asap.

Hopefully it will turn out half decent,if not I have all of the gear so I can redo any panels in the future.

Is your front bar all scraped and dented or you just like the jms front bar?

I thought you should just paint the roof black and keep the body green.
thats dorifto- at its best
