If that comment is directed at me, NO i am not mr know it all i just dont like ignorant comments / people. You have to understand if you dont tune it right dont expect it to last at all regardless. Finally no i didnt just step out of a rex or V8. The 180 is my second car, its predecessor was a N12 Pulsar.

I did say are more prone to losing it, not totally losing it aka blowing up.

and with your comment to "get your facts straight" had nothing to do with what i had talked about, am i right ? i didn't say anything about tuning specs.

reliable vs unreliable.

SR20 and CA18 are both unreliable if your unlucky and bought a beaten up one.

It all comes down to your budget.
Personally I wanted and got the SR20

from reading reviews they are suppose to be a more refined engine againts the CA18 and in some reviews the SR20DET actually consumes less petrol than the CA18DET in normal day to day driving. before YOU GUYS SNAP at me - in harsh boosting alll the time condition then its a different story. the SR20DET will guzzle petrol. I think I read this from autospeed.

The extra power and a little extra torque is for sure handy.
CA18 is a great engine no doubt. But if it was layed on the table and I had to make a choice. SR20DET for sure.

SR20DET vs CA18DET
Why is it that SR20DET conversions to any car it can fit into is far more popular than a CA18DET conversion with all the performance workshops out there ????

These guys have shit loads of experience and they use SR20s. wonder why ? If CA18DET is a far more supperior engine then why use the SR20DET in the first place ? SR20DET canot have been a step down from the CA18 for production purposes ?

my 2cents.
I'd go the SR20DET providing budget allow ya.

Y u son of a B!+.., sorry got carried away :P

Of coz ppl will chose the SR over CA as of its age and of its capacity.

But then again the price of a SR over CA is like double the price and CA are getting to the age where major company (eg HKS, Blitz etc etc. ) don't list parts for CA anymore. As i have tried to look already.

any way life carrys on.

who you callina sonofa B*&tch - yasonofasons BIT*H :D hehehehee.
i'm not baggin the CA engine. compared to other engines of its age and capacity, it is prolly one of the good ones. BUT compared to the SR.. common ........

i'm just disputing the point that the SR20DET is far more superior than the CA18 and if I was him Id go the SR20 if the cash allows him to. he'd be happier I wreckon....

price difference is double no doubt. enginewise.
i looked into it prior to buying the SR20DET 180.
get a 90 180sx with a dead ca18 and put in an SR20DET.

not worth the hassel, and the cost unless i do most of the work, not to mention reliability unless its 100% perfect conversion -> which we know rarely happens. there will always be a proble. Some just has less and very minor probs than others.

might aswell fork out whats needed for a stock SR20DET 180sx/silvia.
cos later down the track, he will start looking for more power.

theres my extra 2cents

Quote form page 1 "SR20 are more prone to blowing up with basic mods (turbo, fmic, boost)" - monster180sx

Please be consistent with your posts. What do you classify as 'losing it' without blowing up. Bent rod, fried ring etc. These will all have a permanent and detremental effect on the block weakening it so it 'may' 'blow up' later if the excess problems that stem from it are not examined and fixed. Keep digging........
