Hi, the LSD in my S1 S14 is starting to slip and I have found a helical LSD from an S15 for pretty cheap.. Just windering if its worth going to this style? Ive read that its no good for drifting as it never locks, but ive driven an S15 (which i assume had a HLSD but not 100%) and it seemed pretty good, it would lock up on power slides etc.. Has anyone got any feedback on them? Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks

ok, I fitted the helical style LSD today. It has a 3.8ish ratio where my old one had a 4.3ish.. I did prefer the higher ratio however on the highway at 100kph sits at just under 2000rpm in 6th.. As far as locking and being a limited slip goes, im pretty happy.. I didnt know what to expect so I decided to throw it in and just try it.. I dumped the clutch and slid down the road with both wheels spinning like in any other LSD, pulled over and turned the wheel full lock and dumped the clutch and spun around like any other LSD, im yet to try it in the wet or at any sort of drifting but so far so good.. I think im still going to reco my VLSD and have it as a spare anyway but as for the HLSD im pretty happy so far.. Rain is expected in the next few days so ill post an update on wet weather soon..

Good stuff, it's all been done before with mixed results depending on expectations from the S14 OEM VLSD to S15 HLSD.

But through trail, it seems you're pretty happy with the results. :)

As for recon of your VLSD, if it's simply that it doesn't provide the LSD effect any longer, go to Nissan and purchase a shim(s) in your desired sizing to tighten the unit up and offer cheap lock with good results for not a HUGE amount of effort.

Hi, its 100% a HLSD so it must have been from a manual.. Pretty happy with it :)
