Hey, guys... I'm after a new alternator for my s13 and wanted to know a few things.

1) Being that I had trouble with finding a new compressor (reason being my was a Zytel... and the moron at my parts place doesn't understand that when i say "NON-TURBO" it means "NON-TURBO"), are all S13 alternators the same (are a turbo and a non-turbo engine alternator interchangeable)?

 --- I've trolled the internet but could not find any answer ---

2) What is an average price range for an alternator? The dude I got into contact with at a spares place said he had one, but I needed to trade my broken one AND pay 300 on top of that (:-?I've never had to do that with spares before)

3) I've had a go at taking mine out, but it appears to have a bracket on it, holding it to the engine. Is this normal? Will this work in my favour finding a new alternator?

Cheers in advance! :D :D :D

PS. If anybody has one PM me please!

1) yes, turbo and non turbo alternators are the same

2) They seem to be a bit hard to find at the moment, but I would expect to get a second hand one for maybe $100 or so. You may have to get yours rebuilt by an auto electrician if you can't get a second hand one.

3) yes, it will have a bracket on it, otherwise it would fall out of the car.
One long bolt through the bottom, one short bolt through the top, which is part of the belt tensioner.

But do these guys usually ask for the broken part you're wanting to replace? and if so... are they supposed to drop the price?

most places selling reconditioned parts will want your old one as exchange so they have something to reco and sell to the next person.

But normally when they do that it's for a good price. 300$ for an alternator seems pretty high IMO esp for a 2nd hand one. Unless the unit has a massive warranty.
