Post subject:  s13 aircon problem, ac button

hi there people quick question for u guys..i bought an s13 and the aircon doesnt work...i have been told that it has a new engine....now problem is when i turn on the A/C button it doesnt light up everything else do except that.is that because the car has no gas and the compressor doesnt kick in or is it a faulty control?...i can get it re-gas but i wanted to make sure everything is alright first before i get it done....any help would be much appreciated..btw car is s13 silvia ca18de.thanks

check to make sure its got gas, i believe most systems wont start the compressor without the presence of gas. get an aircon specialist to look at it first. it might be something else like a TX or RX valve that is stopping it. maybe a fuse etc etc.

check power at the switch, it could be fucked

the compressor will turn on regardless if there is gas or not

Every Aircon system i've come across has usually both upper and lower pressure switches.

Have the problem right now with my dad's hilux... turn aircon on the compressor engages then disengages after about 1min...

The problem is the pressure of the gas on the suction side goes down due to the compressor increasing the pressure on the high side and obviously the themal reactions of the gas...

Because there is not enough gas in the system the pressure goes down too low which would cause the compressor to scavenge hence the pressure switch disengaging the compressor...

Hope some of this helps.. like zei said see an aircon specialist..

Theres a troubleshooting guide around somewhere, but do the engine revs drop when you hit the switch? If not, perhaps thats not connected, next step is connect the battery direct to the compressor when the cars on, does that give you cold air?

If the compressor is connected and the engine revs do drop but no cold air, then check if the system is gassed up.

That being said, I know _nothing_

go to another aircon place and see what they say. then compare their results

its a little hard to diagnose without actually seeing the car
