Post subject:  Air intake size difference S13/S15

My S13 is running an S15 engine, i want to chuck an Apexi air filter on there before I get it tuned. The filter is strapped straight onto the pipe running off to the turbo, I measured its diameter at 6.6cm

Looking at the Apexi site the intakes with 6.5cm are for S13 and the S15 ones are 85cm. Have they used a skinnier S13 pipe? I wasn't looking to upgrade the piping but I want at least stock :)

That S13 adaptor has in outlet diameter of 7.1cm, sounds just right for fitting over what i have :\

I'm only running 16psi atm, maybe it doesn't matter.

Dont bother looking at stock S13/S15 intake sizes - you have a MAP sensor, thus no AFM and a custom intake pipe.

ie. Your intake is neither S13, nor S15.

I can't for the life of me find anyone selling a flange to connect a pod filter to a pipe, apexi make them but no-one stocks them and I can't find anyone with aftermarket. autopro, autobarn, repco, pirtek, few other ones i can't remember the name of, best i could find was standard kits for AFM. I even tried a local garage that specializes in hotting up cars and they told me to buy it somewhere else and bring it to them!

Anyone know somewhere around campbelltown that may stock non-mainstream?

What sort of pipe setup do you have?
There are likely several veeeeery easy ways to do it that don't involve giving lots of money to someone for a cast adaptor.

Post a pic.

Just a 66mm pipe heading down to the turbo, no standard AFM. Autobarn I called had kits for 180sx etc but they'd be made to attach to the AFM.

My old pod filter has an extra section that makes it easy but it appears apexi are assholes. I'll head down to autobarn today and have a look if they have some universal ones, perhaps the guy on the phone just didn't know.

intake pipe, yeh, last guy used lots of tape to try increase size to fit bigger filter :)

Those arseholes at apexi made their pod to bolt directly onto your afm. The bastards...

Which means if you get a 2.5inch adapter to suit an sr afm it will fit the back of the filter and you use a joiner between that and your intake pipe.

You use the adapter backwards, it's not hard.

That's a good idea.

Harder than you think, you're the first person to suggest that.

I still rekon Apexi must be bastards though cause out of all the places I've been to no-one stocks them :) i'm buying them online.

The pod you you had in your 'new pod' link is the Apexi' Power Intake pod, ive had these in all of my cars and they come with numerous adaptors. I just recently (last wednesday - 4 Nov) bought 3 of the very ones you had in that picture (Power intake pod for the Z32 afm). You can get them at Just Jap, they had plenty when i spoke to them.
