hi and welcome to the forum.

a lot people will tell you not to waste your time with the CA18 motor, but if youre not looking for huge horsepower, then its probably a reliable motor assuming its running ok.

you could start with the easy stuff like an exhaust and intake, then (assuming its turbo) increase the boost, install a front mounted intercooler and turn the boost up more. again, assuming its turbo you could change the turbo for something massive, or go mild and purchase an S15 turbo which is a good upgrade for the cost on a CA18.

but dont forget once you make it go faster, you need to be able to stop faster too. so do the brakes while youre at it! and depending on your budget (and whats already been done to the car) get some aftermarket suspension, and replace all the tired bushes as the car is 21 years old now and rubber doesnt last forever.

If it isnt turbo'd then sell it and get something with an sr20 turbo'd. You will have a tonne of cheap fun.

You get quick hp gain for little mods. Very cost effective.

i think you hear wrong. the VET head is for a FWD block and its not compatible with a RWD block. although they are SR20s, they are pretty different.

sr20vet rwd conversions have been done, but they're far from bolt-on-and-off-you-go.
pretty much everything is custom.

short answer to the original poster's question is that CA's are a waste of time and money. if you have a turbo version,a full exhaust, front mounted intercooler and a bit of boost are the areas you'd look at if they haven't been done already. if it's NA,there's not much you can do do cheaply for any real gains. best bet would be to save up for an engine swap or sell it for something better.

so you would agree for the average person that wants to slap that head on a RWD DET motor it wont fit?? :P

with lots of custom work you would have put a W12 in there. doesnt mean average joe can do it.

anyway, that DOES look good!

u need custom intake manifold
modified exhaust manifold or u can go full custom like i have
all custom intercooler piping and intake pipe
custom dump pipe

i wouldnt recommend it for the average joe or some one on a budget but it can be done

is that all the custom parts required? i thought there would be more, as long as the block bolts to the head, rest is quite easy i say

where's the turbo get oil from and return that oil back into?

How'd the engine mounts fit up?

How's the cooling system been done?

if you've dropped a VE head on a DET block,it makes a bit more sense. 'it bolts on' goes completely against the one I've seen before though.
