Post subject:  s15 problem ..

hey guys, i noticed that my car struggles to pull from 3rd gear up at full throttle. it will hit full boost at about 4k but doesnt seem to pull at all, while on 3/4 throttle full boost will come on about 3.2ish k and pull nicely.

1st and 2nd are fine. vacuum on idle is about 4ish and abit on stock gauge.
also when full boost is on the needle is jumpy, like it doesnt stay on 0.6 bar, it will move from 0.6 to 0.65 then back down then back up.

i know i should take it to a mechanic but i dont have time as i work 6days a week.

took it for another drive thrashing through 1st 2nd and 3rd

when i put my foot down, by the time it reaches 3k its at 0.5 bar then continues to rise to about 0.7 - 0.8 by 5k

problem is it doesnt actually start pulling till im over 4k

is this normal.

any help would be appreciated.

Could be a leak around the turbo area

Does it make any abnormal noises when it hits boost?

For me everything seems fine just no power.

Having it dynoed this Sat to see whats the problem.

Let you guys know when I find out

SPC99R: It sounds like it might be an air leak. Check all of your intercooler piping for leaks.

Putting it on the dyno is a great idea. Chances are you're just used to the power, so it doesn't seem fast any more. You're always chasing the dragon when it comes to your car feeling fast. No matter how much power you make, eventually you'll get used to it.

The best (and cheapest) remedy is to drive a much slower car around for a week or two. Then when you jump back in your Silvia, it feels fast again!

found a leak on the left side, slightly drives better now it will pull from 2k on but isnt that strong but enough to notice a difference.

boost gauge still reading abit above -4 on stock guage so im guessing theres still a leak somewhere, just gotta find it.

hey

So what leak are you refering to? in the intake section or the small pressure hoses around that activate the actuator?

Are you making positive boost around the 2.5k rpm mark? if not then you may have a leak in those small hoses that goes to the actuator.

Also a small update I had it dynoed today and mechanic said it was making power but was running a bit rich

sorry when i said left side i meant standing infront of the car.

found the leak, on the driver side. actually it popped off while driving. where the t piece is, that smaller tube that goes to the thing on the tower, guess it wasnt connected properly.

i will make like 0.2 bar at 2.5k i think.

Glad that you are making boost.

i bypassed the stock solenoid, connected a new pipe straight to the wastegate.

it only boosted 0.4 all gears, the stock wastegate spring is 0.5?

its prob intercooler piping, or something.
