pl35me, im looking into the turbo exemption at the moment. might be pushing shit uphill so to speak with it though. Other option if my motor is cacti (unsure what sort of knock i have at the moment... pretty sure its piston slap..) is to slap a S14 SR20DE in. Was curious if there was anything specific i would need to know about this swap? i know the loom, ecu, and afm need to be changed, however, does the S14 engine loom connect to tje dash/sensors/etc on the S13?

Turbo exemption would definitely be achievable as you are an apprentice mechanic; you will need a letter from your boss however stating that in the course of your duties you need to drive turbocharged and eight-cylinder vehicles.

Re: S14 SR20DE...

You can use an S13 loom and ECU, but you will need to swap over the:

CAS
Coils
Ignitor + plug leads
Coolant temp sensor
Knock sensor loom
FICD and AAC solenoid rear halves
Alternator and starter wiring

The S13 dash will work just fine.

DV5180 - not wednesdays mate.. got tafe :P

i want a silvia, - thanks for that info bud. all makes perfect sense reguarding the S14 motor. think ill be swapping loom and ecu.

Locky, yeah, thats a problem a few people at Tafe have. only got work hour permits, which would be useless for my silvia really. Looks like SR20DET is off the cards for now :(

fly510, its been into our workshop a few times for servicing. one thing that i really remember is the FMIC... its about to fall off. also be careful of the sensor tapped into the sump. id be slapping a helicoil in the bitch asap.. Overall, no issues aye, and i didnt mind how it goes ;) Great condition for a S14!!

Michael, i didnt have the time, patience, or the money to finish it off. All it needed was the starter motor bolted back in, some new springs, tune the microtech, rego, and done. I thought enough was enough at the end of the day, so an upgrade was in order. I almost jumped ship and bought a Honda CRX Del Sol, then remembered that what i had wanted for sooo farkin long was a S13. so i got one, and im glad i did.
