Hey everyone,

I know there are a few parents here and surely you didn't all sell your cars when the kidlets arrived. Did anyone fit a child seat into their car (particularly an S13)?
My boy is just about big enough and old enough to be sitting facing forward in the car seat now. Since the sale value of silvias atm makes it almost pointless to sell them I've decided to get a baby seat for my car. I know it's possible to fit them, as I've seen an S13 in my area with one installed.
Basically what I want to know is: how easy was it to fit? (guessing it's not but who knows), did you do it yourself?, and what brand seat did you get?

Wouldn't be transporting him around in my car very often, it's just for incase I'm with him and need to take him somewhere when my wife is out with our other car.

No hope in hell I'll get the pram in the boot though :(

Any help would be most appreciated.
Cheers.

Sam

Do you have child restraint points/brackets?

You should have them from compliance. If your car doesn't, they can be bought from Super Crap Auto and it is a fairly painless install. You just need to drill a hole through the parcel shelf for the bolts to go through.

Hey Sam, I went through this as well. It is a total non-issue until the little one is big enough to want more leg room. Then it's a matter of comfort level for the person in front of the child. If no one in the front the just lock it as forward as it goes, my son is now 6 and still fits well in the back with the booster seat.

I personally used a 'mothers choice' brand seat, and had no problems. I actually used it rearward facing as well. It uses both the child restraint point and the regular belt. Peace of piss really.

The hardest part is navigating through the small opening offered behind the front seat to get the child into the seat!

Cheers for that, just the kind of info I was after! :)

Has anyoe else had any experiences with other brands of child seats? I would like to know how other brands go, although the mothers choice ones do seem pretty good.

yeah, but they're not ADR approved... and not cheap.

I was toying with the idea of getting recaro material and covering a baby seat, but that would have worked out to be almost as expensive I think!

i was toying redoing the baby seat in bride material but after the first couple of times it was vomited in, or when the nappy didn't quite hold all of the wee and one time it was like really runny poo :o . My car stunk for a while and then there is the food and mud all sorts of s*** that somehow forces its way in the car

i used my 180sx with my boy in it nearly every day. i can get our big 3 wheel pram under my parcel shelf but i usually just have a small fold out stroller for going to the shops and stuff

hey its not all that difficult as i have an s13 silvia and twin boys... my biggest problem was the pram fitting the boot ( get a stroller not a jogging pram), and the only thing i do is the selector bar that says forward/recline/rearwards on the seat, i have it in the rearward facing position still so it pulles the seat frimly down :D

Just coming back to this again as I'm now finally looking at getting the seat.
Can any of you guys who have a seat installed please take a pic of the mounting brackets in the boot so I can see what they look like. I think my car is missing them so I'll need to get some put in.

Thanks :)

We decided to not bother trying to fit the seat into our S13 as the pram won't fit in the boot anyway. Ended up buying an R33 4dr instead. They have a surprisingly large boot!

PS: I know this is no help to you :)

Lack of boot space now doesn't really worry me as we barely use the stroller anymore (we have one of those cheap fold-up prams now, they take up next to no space).

I did consider the 4dr whale option for a while, but since it's almost impossible to sell an S13 for a reasonable price that idea got canned.

I suspect at least for the first several months (while the kid is a useless blob), we will need to use a bulky bit pram thing, but later will get one of the little fold-up ones

no, you use a capsule, while the kid is in blob mode.
It just clicks in and out of its base.
