hi guys my adm 200sx s15 has just developed a problem which i cannot figure out what it iS

#when i start it it idles fine then starts idling like the revs drop and like its going to turn off give it a rev and it idles fine again then it will just play up on idling again
#on low rpm while your driving say 2000 to 3000 rpm and you give it a bit it starts struggling like a cut out or sumthing as if it is starving for fuel but once you get over that rpm point it picks up and goes i have changed the spark plugs plus fuel filter check cooler piping and vacumn hoses checked air flow meter and all seem fine what can it be as its driving me crazy

but the other day, my friends honda was behaving like that.
it was coz he washed his engine bay and water seeped into the cylinders.

mine had similar problems, before it would fuel cut completely..
my crank angle sensors wiring was all burnt out so we lubed it up and it fixed most of the problem.

but it still idols funny now and again, but thats cause my aftermarket ignition system is on its way to shit
mines ADM too.

check the crank angle sensor anyway. :) cant hurt to try

As quoted above, clean the air flow meter and it should solve the problem, i had a similar problem with mine.

In addition to cleaning the AFM I would take the IACV off the throttle body and clean that out with throttle body cleaner. Three bolts to take off along with disconnecting 2 plugs. You may want to change the gasket at the same time. This fixed the exact same issue you are having with my S14.

You may need to adjust the base idle again after cleaning by turning the adjustment screw a 1/4 turn at a time to get the idle to 850rpm. My IACV was so dirty that the car idled at 1000rpm after cleaning when it was 800rpm when dirty.

If you don't know what it looks like see here

then maybe you have a problem other than the one described in this thread?

is your car doing the same thing or something?

ok guys took the car to the auto elec he checked it out showed up nothing on the scanner so he started playing around with the air flow meter (i have a drift pod filter on it) anyways he said to put the standerd air box on which we did and the car was back to normal it fixed up with the air box on so can someone please confirm to me that the drift pod filter was the problem and it was a new one. if i put a k@n will it be the same ?

I expect that his playing with the AFM may have fixed the issue?

using a less restrictive air filter / air box shouldn't cause the problem you were having.

spend the 10 minutes putting the pod back on to be 100% sure.

people fit cheap nasty pods or k&ns all the time and this problem doesn't occur. Unless there is something very very wrong with your pod, but if it looks OK and was fitted without disturbing the AFM it should be fine.

It doesnt always have to be something difficult the AFM is a good thing to check also the boost vacuum lines are a big thing to check, Those little rubber hoses cant last forever and will crack under pressure hence low rpm, boost spikes etc. It happened to me like most of us and i worked from the harder solution to the easiest wrong way round !!! LOL

mate, i had a similar problem, in that my S15 was hunting for idle and not always finding it, would drop to just below 800 and then go up to 1500 and back down again like a see saw for a while.

Culprit was the O2 sensor.. it was not dead to the point it would show up as a faulty sensor, but it had basically gone bad.

same thing with my s15 changes it and it was all good just finding an o2 sensor puller is the hard bit talk to a mechanic or exhaust place they have em

haha due to my own recent experiances id also saydrain ur oil and remove ur sump and allow it to completely drain the oil, change oil filter then remove the rocket cover and take the oil squirters above the cams **exhaust cam espically* and have them cleaned and make sure non of them are blocked!!!

also cheak if under ur cam lobes the valves do have burnt up oil on them..
