Hey all,

I am looking at getting a silvia with wide rear fenders. What I need to know is if it will ever pass a blue slip if the original guards/rear quarter panels have been bashed or cut out so fit wider wheels. Also if these wide bolt ons are made of fibreglass will it pass?

Also, what about fibreglass front guards and fibreglass vented bonnets? Would they pass blue slip at all? Any help here would be great as I dunno if I'm wasting my time with checking this car out.

Cheers
Kirk

i have had my previous silvia pass a blue slip with wide fibreglass fronts .... generally it depends on who u go see

the guard is not considered structual .so as long as there is no chasis mod then i reckon you shold be fine mate

rears are fine because you retain the metal underneath, fronts are a fail though.

sayings that unless you get defected for them, the blue slip mechanic will most likely not notice them, and it should pass. Ive got mates that have passed many blues with fibreglass fronts.

fiberglass bonnet would technically be fail too, unless its ADR and engineered but once again it comes down to the mechanic doing the slip..

its easy enough to change out a bonnet for blue slip tho.. just borrow one off someone with the same car.

as long as the tyres are not past the fenders and the fenders are mounted correctly it should pass without a problem

wheels and tyres have their own set of rules that are not strictly related to wide guards.

excessive wheel TRACK is a defectable item. even if the tyres are well inside the guards. you're allowed 50mm total increase on each axle.

You just have to hope that the boys in blue have no idea what the standard track is

hmmm, is track measured from the outside or inside edge from the rim?

wouldn't it be possible to stick on some skinny +40 rims which just clear the calipers so it will pass a blue slip?

yeah I'm kinda worried about clearing a defect by full inspection (blue slip) once it gets defected as I'm sure it will one day.

If you get defected due to excess track, then just chuck stockers on there.

Who cares if it looks silly at the inspection?

From my experience if a car is modified no matter how far or wide the track is, if it is safe and fit for the purpose it simply needs a engineer to clear it with a report and sometimes a large fee, then you shouldnt have any problems
