Want to know how far they go back? Do some reading. look for a company called prince. they made the first skylines,back in the 50's.

The bodies were pretty much hand assembled so fitting parts from one car onto another can be a problem as they are unlikely to fit very well.
49 came to Australia. About a dozen are still registered and regularly driven.
Only one was made in LHD and it ended up going to the US with Albrecht Goertz, the German Designer who helped design it. Goertz died last year. He also helped Nissan and Yamaha design a prototype Z car in the early 60s. Nissan shelved the plan so Yamaha took it to Toyota and ended up with the 2000GT, one of the rarest, prettiest and most collectable cars ever to come out of Japan. If you can find a good one for sale, expect to pay >$250,000. BTW, 8 of these came to Australia. Most went back to Japan in the 90s. The last one in Aust was for sale earlier this year. Stupid me bought a 260Z many years ago for $8k when I could have bought a 2000GT for $40k. Not that I actually had $40k back then.
They CSP311 was one of the first Japanese cars capable of going over 160km/h so some of them were used by the Tokyo Highway Patrol.
They were expensive cars when they first came out. They were double the price of an average Holden.

Phill: How badly do you want it? the factory I'm in out west would fit it in nicely,and I'll likely be out of there by the middle of next year. I also know of a garage near me that'll be up for grabs around the same time that you could store it in.
How hard would it be to find a U20 for it?


I saw a 2000GT last saturday actually.
I was coming home from out west - it turned onto the M4 heading west from out Blacktown way.
Al Palmer sold his recently,and it went for over $200k. it there are so few still left here there's a good chance that that was the one I saw.
I'm fairly sure TMCA has one also.

I have to be good Justin. Rebuilding that Silvia would take more money than I have set aside for my upcoming engine conversion. If I did buy the Silvia I would do what Anthony says and stick an N/A SR20 in it. Plenty of old Fairladies, including some Aussie ones now have that conversion so it is pretty well worked out. I know I could get all of the plans for modified mounts etc from a mate who converted one of his.

Good to hear that there is still a 2000GT in the country. Even more interesting to hear that Toyota Aust may have one. The last ones I saw were at the Toyota Museum in Tokyo. That place really is a shrine to the 2000GTs.

Mazda Aust has one of the few original 60s Cosmos in the country. At one stage Nissan Aust also started collecting cars as well. I know they had a 1930s 2-door sedan, a 411 Bluebird and a 260Z, all in excellent condition.
