Soo, I went with some suggestion from fellow S15 owners and cut the excess plate holder off and sprayed part of the rear bumper black-ish. Looks somewhat cleaner now.

Also did the "Free Boost Upgrade" which apparently gives an extra 1-2psi and 10-20rwkw. I can feel the extra wasps but to safely monitor it, next up will be a cheapie boost gauge until I can justify a Defi.

free boost upgrade wont give 20kw's. 10kw MAX.

i did it when i first got my S15 as well, you can definitely feel the extra boost, id say between 5-10kw's more.

My car still has the restricted hose in it. I'm just a little concerned about intake temperatures when doing this on the stock intercooler on hot days and track days.

Nissan must have had some good reason to put it in there.

my car was running without the restrictors for over a year before i put the front mount on. it wasnt tracked during that time, but was ok during summer. didnt overheat or anything.

im guessing the Mr Nissan put them in there to restrict the power to adhere to some form of guideline?? does anyone know?

i think the restrictor limits the speed at which boost comes on, saves transmissions and clutches etc. makes the car more smooth instead of a sudden kick of power. not everyone loves boost the way most of us here do :P

the restrictor is there to control airflow through the factory bleed solenoid, and give a smooth boost curve. the result is fairly progressive power rather than a sudden rush.

the free boost upgrade speeds things up so your peak boost level will increase, but it will no longer be as smooth or consistent throughout the rev range as per the factory setup.

in my 2nd S14 I ran the FBU for a while, and it's boost trace on the dyno looked somewhat like a polygraph chart. the tractive effort matched the fluctuating boost line also...

as for keeping an eye on what's happening, buy a quality gauge the first time. don't be tight now,and pay more later. pay once,do the job once.

Justin...

Defi racer gauges are worth considering if you don't have a lot of money to buy the whole control unit and all the senders and stuff that go with it.

Defi racer gauges are stand alone gauges that operate independent of a control unit - so if you only plan on getting 1 or 2 gauges, it may work out cheaper to get the racer gauges instead of the usual Defi gauges.

The FBU was just a trial to see if it actually works. Now, I might just run it w/o the restrictor on the road and come track day, oem hose goes back on. I think Justin and Chris have persuaded me with the Defi's.

Cheers for comments guys.

Small update

Had a bit of help spraying my calipers

Also went to Wakefield. Fastest was a hand-timed 1:18.33 and consistant 1:19's. Not bad considering I was on the 205/55 dz101's to which I kept understeering in.

Overtaken by an fc
