Hey all, been lurking for awhile but didnt have anythin to say until now and i was just after to get your opinion on something i read today in the paper

While I do agree that hoons driving round at high speeds etc is something that should be left to the track not our streets but this new rule seems to go abit far in my opinion, in where an offender gets hit $234 to have their car towed home and an extra $5.68 every kilometre if its further than 10km. After which they are hit $264 to have the car clamped plus $17.60 for every day it's clamped and $132 to unclamp it when the suspension is up.

While hoons do have to be stopped before more people die needlessly i just feel there has to be a better way to deal with the problem and i was just after your opinions on this govt ruling.

that's a nice revenue raiser for a 3mth suspension. would add up to a few grand...

the bottom line here: don't get your car impounded.

yeah revenue raiser indeed, its $2214 for a minimum 3 months so if you lose your licence for 6 months or more then your kind of stuffed financially

which is part of the point. stuff like this is put through to dissuade you from doing the wrong thing. hit people where it hurts most - in their wallets.

don't do anything that will encourage them to impound your car,and you'll be fine.

wow thats quite a hefty lump of charges for impounding. They must be making heaps of money out of that.

Considering how much they charge for impounding and then think about how much it would cost them to do it. :-?

crushing isn't happening here, but they've said that they'd like to bring it in.

impounding has been going on since the early 90's.

In time you will learn that its just not worth doing dumb shit on the streets, not so sure this new ruling is needed as a nice suspension will usually enough to drum it into someones head.

I now wont do anything which will lead to a mandatory loss of licence, so I make sure not to:

Drink drive at all,
speed over 30 kms over the limit,
lose traction.

I have my full licence though, if your on your P's your even more stuffed.

i thought on the news they said "only 1 car has been crushed" since that law came out, so they were looking at USING the "hoon" cars as unmarked police cars. this was all on the news about 2 weeks ago.

does that mean they will pay for the services too? clocking up other peoples KM's and thrashing around other peoples property?
it wont go into play.

thats so unfair! :o
im disgusted, gosh i hope my car never gets seized :( actually it will be ok, cause the new highway patrol place is right next to home and can see the grassed area they store seized cars. its so unsafe too, as theres just a little gate with a chain holding cars in. -_-

It seems that this rule has been put into effect after two P-platers were caught racing 30km/h over the limit in their Mitsubishi FTO's and their cars have been wheel-clamped outside their house until they face court.

It seems to me that every time the coppers do something like this, the idiots they do it to had it coming.

On the other hand, if you try to do the right thing and aren't a dickhead, coppers wont go to the extreme on you.

Take me for instance. I got defected last night.

The coppers new full well that certain things were wrong, and they could have nailed me to the wall for it.

They could also see that I have tried to do the right thing, and wasn't doing anything stupid on the road, didn't give them any attitude or anything like that.

So rather than impound my car, fine me thousands of dollars for various things, and basically bend me over, they let me go with a defect for

*one parker not working
*one blinker not working
*ignition barrel does not hold key securely.

I was pissed off for a while until it dawned on me the huge amount of things they didn't get me for, and the fact that they let me off the much more serious issues of driving with suspended licence and rego (I didn't realise I had an outstanding parking fine)

Then they left me there, made it clear that I couldnt drive, the car couldn't driven.... and that they were going -that- way now, and knocking off. Said they weren't giving me permission to drive the car but they were heading in -that- direction, and did i 'understand'

Don't be a tool and coppers will usually be reasonable. Even if they are being harsh to get your car impounded you really have to be taking the piss I think.
