Hey guys,

I searched for a post regarding conversions on a r33 diff but couldnt find any.

I want to upgrade my s15 diff to a r33 s2 diff, but i dont know where to begin, nor where to start. i have heard ther r33 diff gear ratios are shorter so there for quicker response.

If anyone can help it would be great.

cheers :)

this is a silvia forum,so there will be few posts relating to R33's.

as for the diff part, what are you after exactly? if you have an S15's torsen diff now,and think a viscous unit out of an R33 is going to be an upgrade, you're in for a shock.

my advice would be to save your pennies for a proper mechanical LSD and fit that to the S15 housing.

as for ratios,do a search on the web for what comes with what. an auto will have lower gears (as in a higher number :1) than a manual car generally. the lowest std gears you'll find are 4.11:1,like i have std in my stagea, and GTRs run.
what ratio you need depends on what you want to primarily use the car for.

Auto R33's came with 4.3x gears which should be the lowest ratio in that housing.

The diff itself should be a straight swap, but im pretty sure the half shafts from the s15 wont go into the r33 diff. S14 and r33 half shafts seem to be the same, but i couldnt get a pair of s15 half shafts into an s14 diff so that makes me think it will be a problem for you

Justin,
The r33 s2 diff have a ratio of 4.11:1, and on the side of LSD im not so worried about the viscous, because my cousin had it in his S15 with a power output of 250kwrw and had traction no problem, like i said im not so worried about the lsd.
I just want to know what i would need to do to complete a conversion such as this.
The outcomes i am trying to acheive are lower gear ratios and quicker response and i think this would be a way to go about it, well one way anyway...

your right it wont, if i was to upgrade the diff i would also need to upgrade my driveshafts. But can i use a diff that doesnt have a abs? because i dont know where mines located...

skylines run their abs sensors on the halfshafts, bolted to the diff's rear cover.
whichever centre you use, you'll need to fit the skyline's cover, and halfshafts.

as for the gear ratios, find whichever ones you want, and get them fitted to your current diff. that's the easiest way to have everything fit up straight out.

otherwise,you need to swap covers,input yokes,half shafts,etc...

all you need is the diff itself, half shaft, and drive shaft,
diff needs to be from an ABS fitted S2 skyline,
with that its a straight swap over,

and if you want so form of of lock,
put a shim in the centre and start saving for a mechanical lsd,
but the shimmed centre wont break on you for awhile, so it gives you plenty of time to save,
with the skyline diff, the car will pick up alot faster, and the gear ratio is more suited to tracks racing, as its alot closer together,

and you could always sell your S15 diff and drive shafts to a dude with an s14 that wants to upgrade,
they sell for about the same price as the skyline, so you can save your money that way
