Didnt they refine the S15 platform? So it has more feel and response than any other S' series.
S14a panels are hard to find, where as S15 there is plenty.

if you're talking stock versus, stock, yeah, the S15 chassis is significantly better. if it's modded, versus modded, with similar cash outlaid on both, the S14 will win more often than not.

S14a panels are NOT hard to find. if you've found this to be the case, you can't be looking very hard.
S14 is harder than S14a,but not exactly challenging either. a 30sec search on ebay or yahoo auctions will confirm that.

from what i know about quick shifters.. it is a mod that changes how much distance you have to move the the gear knob to change gears...

Back on topic for S14 VS S15, the way I see it is purely as a styling decision.
Both cars have the same power and handling potential.

So as far as BFYB (bang for your buck) S14 wins every time.

The real question is why people ask so much for the S13 Siliva. It is lot older car (up to 10years older) and in my opinion has dodgy styling. Yet I see people adverising them at 10-13K on average. The same money is getting in to S14 territory, with the car being newer and having better mechanicals.
There is also the advantage of the S14 being locally delivered (insurance, parts) and far less likely of having its odometer changed (like a LOT of imports). When I was on the hunt for a new car the S13 was ruled out very early as being very poor value for money.

What I would pay for a stockish example of each:
S15 18-22K

S14A 12-14K

S14 10-12K

S13 SR20DET 6-8K

S13 CA18DET 5-6K

S13 N/A max 5K

I think we are going to see a price correction of the S13 over the next few years as S14s are becoming really good value for money.

prices of S13's aren't going to go down much further,if at all, especially the NA cars, which are now in very high demand thanks to the P plate laws.

S14's have been good value for money for over 5 years, ever since they dropped below $20k when I bought my second one. the current asking price is almost criminal for how much car you get.

Hey guys, first post :). Glad to be hear.

Well, my current ride is a Mitsibishu TJ Magna, which, is a good car, but, its time to move on.

I was looking at some Evos for a bit, then decided to look more towards 200s.

Car will be a daily driver, which will hit the circuit about 5 or so times a year, and the dragstip probably about 10times a year.

From reading on these forums, it seems these cars are well suited to my needs. Im planning to at first have about 180rwkw, with Coilovers, and swaybars to suit. With this im aiming for a 12second pass, and a sub 1:10 at Wakefield.

Now, im in two minds if I should go for an S15, or S14. I personally prefer the look of the S15, but dont mind the S14a.

A few people have mentioned the 6speed, found in the S15 isnt as strong as the 5speed, and for serious trackwork needs to be replaced, or rebuilt. How true is this ?

Also, any other reasons you guys can see why one particular model is better than the other.

Thanks for you help

In my opinion the S15 is overall a better car but the gearbox is its weak point. It is the same box as MX5 '01 and Lexus IS200.

- s15s have an aesthetic advantage over the s14
- s14s are older than s15s
- s14s feels real fat when you drive them
- potentially less noises in s15s lol.. bad noises
- s15s have better interiors over the boring grey cloth of the s14s
- s15s are so freaking popular.. go to burwood and count how many s15s cruise through there... you'd need more than the average abacus

IMO, if you want the looks with the power, and don't care if you're 'just another s15 driver', then get a jdm import s15

i drive an s14 :D

1. that's personal opinion.
2. true. so?
3. huh?
4. ever driven an S15? they're a LOT noisier than an S14. less sound deadening, noisier gearbox - that is considerably weaker as well...
5. so grey and black versus all grey that scratches as you look at it?
6. hyundai getz's are popular as well. doesn't mean they're any good.

id say s14 purely based on the sheer number of s15's on the roads these days...seems every 20 year old with a bank loan has one
