the proper definition of backfiring is a burp back out through the inlet. how this happens is a fault within the ignition or cam timing which results in a plug being fired whilst an inlet valve is open. -bang... have one big enough,you can blow plenums apart,and such. LPG cars are notorious for it if not setup correctly,with quite spectacular results. a pop in the exhaust from exhausted unburnt fuel cooking off is also referred to as backfiring,but the first definition is more widely recognised. it's one of those words that keep getting used even though it's wrong, like diff ratio, it makes sense to everything but in actual fact there's no such thing as a diff ratio - it's actually a final drive ratio, it's like saying the KAAZ centre has a ratio, but in actual fact it's the crownwheel etc The issue could just be that it's overly rich in the tune at higher revs, and the fuel isn't getting burnt until later on in the exhaust |

My car loves to backpop  yea thats rite i made a new word for it
the other night i was racing my friend and it "backpopd" pritty hard and shot a cloud of black smoke my air/fule gauge was showing that my car was running pritty rich, theres nothing to worry about happens to evryone that drives a Japsportcar. ps. I won the race left him in the black smoke haha

a GTR hit it past me tonight and blew a massive flame out and made a nice bang. the mrs asked what that flash was lol i told her my old car used to do it all the time

Afew months back a GTR32 did the same thing to me in the tunnel the bang was soo loud my friend jumpd his like WTF was that. It left such a huge cloud of smoke... but when it took off... my god that thing was quick nowonder they kickd the GTRs out of the races
