only if i blows big coloured flames. blue is a good colour. pink isnt so good for masculine cars.

anyway, its severely overfuelling if it does that. and the car has no cat and an externally venting BOV

Some say running rich is a good thing.... how often is it backfiring?
Is it everytime you change into 2nd and 3rd...or just once in a while?

Pretty much all the time. I notice that when he drives normally it backfires alot... But when he Drives full racing style ... none

hmmmmnnnn .... mmmmm .... we changed the oil (Royal Purple) and the spark plugs .... but it seems to be making noise.

It doesnt lose power or anyfin .... just wondering if its normal. I reckon its the exhuast.

backfire or just a rich popping noise from the exhaust on over run?

There's a big difference, in volume and in potential to cause damage.

tell him to drive 'full racing style' all the time and it should solve his problem then.

backfiring is when it comes through the inlet, very bad

in the case of what you are talking about, it is unburnt fuel igniting in the exhaust,

a lot of cars will do this if they have the cat convertor gutted/removed, and a free flowing exhaust with straight through mufflers fitted, as it provides no restrictins for the flame/explosion to be stopped and comes out the exhaust

Could just be the car running overly rich, i've seen it on heaps of cars, mates 5speed EA falcon, my datto 1600, a few RB powered cars etc

not too sure why though but this thread has made me understand a little better!

what if ur car's stock apart from an i/c and catback? seems to have a big popping noise in the high revs and big load.. low revs and driving normally it doesnt happen.. is that considered backfiring?

also what did u mean by if its back thru the inlet?

isnt the exhaust side called 'after fire' ? my car does it pretty hard some times after being flogged or on really cold day or when throttle is closed very slowly seems the ecu see's the throttle as like 0.1% open or something like that and keeps fueling like at idle but on deceleration there is also an ignition cut on my car.

but yea obviously after market ecu. mainly this is just a bubble sort of sound but some times like banging and very ocasionally like the type of back fire an old bomb does ie. very loud :P
