ok then so i think my VCT is on its way out, it is rattling really loud and it can be heard over the normal idle and sounds like on old bomb.

i do have aftermarket cams but the std vavle springs are in, i know the after market cams put more strain on the VCT so im wondering if it is worth fixing it ot just getting rid of it completely.

Does anyone know what it will cost to get it fixed?

I have a brand new VCT pulley sitting here that you can have for $400.

repairing or removing it depends on how you want the car to drive. you'll need to re-tune your ecu to re-gain some of the mid range response you'll lose from removing the vct,but the upside is that it won't cause you problems again afterwards.
or you can fit a new vct pulley and you shouldn't have any more issues. especially if your cams are mild.
if they're a fairly aggressive grind, your only option is removal of the system.

the cams are pretty mild, the lift isnt to dramatic, abou tthe same as poncams.

im guessing the VCT pulley will fit any blacktop SR (both S14 and S15)

Just noise and eventually the VCT wont work meaning your engine will lose powers. I would always advise using VCT, no reason to bin it as going to a gear is just a compromise, especially with a cam phased for VCT operation.

i think i have the same problem, but i got two noises.
1. When i first start off in the morning i get this loud rattling noise when i get out of gear.
2. Is when i accelerate let go and accelerate again i get a weird springy noise, i can't explain it.

But does anyone get anything similiar?

Sorry for double posting

sorta sounds like a desiel truck. thats really the best way i can explain it.

it happens on idle it may happen when driivng but you cant really hear it over the exhaust.

i was PM'ed a link from you tube and it sounds the same as the car in the clip.

So i guess my next question is it is hard to replace your self or should it be dont professionally?
