I have found on many occasions that Optimax runs really badly. I generally use Caltex's Vortex (mainly coz it's the only servo I pass on the way to / from work) even though it's only 96 octane... Since I am not turbo I don't think it matters. BP Ultimate seems good too, but I don't use it as much.

I try only to use Optimax but depending on how bad I need fule sometimes I go to Caltec and use vortex.
I do belive that Optimax is the only true 98 octane fuel.
How ever in the latest Fast Fours mag they are advertising another petrol that claims to be 98 octane. It has a flame icon or something like that, but it is normally at run down bodgy looking servos

Dont they say BP is 98 RON and Optimax is "Minimum 98RON" I always use Optimax but yeah I know what you mean, every now and then it seems to be a little dodgy... I dunno... probably 6 one half dozen the other

There is only 2 refineries in Sydney and all servos get thier petrol from them and they are Shell and Caltex so PB buys there fuel from them, if they treat it afterwards then fine but just keep that in mind.
Until someone conducts a scientific study to tell me that PB is as good or better that Optimax then, I will continue to use Optimax.
Re: the dodgy experiences, were these from larger servos or little corner ones??
And can you say that 100% it was the fuel that effected your performance.

Both major servos, and meduim sized ones.. I never use the dodgy small ones. I've repeatedly noticed that whenever my car's not running as well as usual it's when it has Optimax in it.. After refilling with something else it goes back to normal pretty quickly.

Give Mobil Synergy a go
its 98 Ron as well.
I have used it in both my turbo and n/a cars and they seem to respond better than Optimax!!
Go Mobil!!
