I'm in Mt Druitt, in the old area (the Great Western Hwy side of the train line).

On the brakes subject, I picked up my front r32 calipers and slotted discs (which were pre-drilled for 4-stud) for around $400 (with new pads, but I can't remember what kind they were) a few years ago (yeah, it took me that long to get organised and have them put on the car), and as dumhed said they're a fairly cheap upgrade.

Thanks man, huge help, u got them pretty cheap compared to what I've heard they go for. I've been told they're about 400 just for the calipers. And thats if your lucky...

Just had a thought, as I'm upgrading the brakes, which master and slave cylinder do I need??? And do I need a new booster??? I'll either be getting r32 gtr's or gts-t's...

I've used the 4 pots with the standard n/a master cylinder and I thought it was fine, but some people like the pedal feel to be firmer, in which case you need to swap the master cylinder to a larger one.

The easiest is the S13 SR20DET master, but for S14 or S15 ones they'll need to be from a non ABS car unless yours has ABS.

Cool. Anyway, I was wondering what coilovers would go well with my s13, I'm looking for a fully adjustable system. I also need to know of a decent place to get a full set of nolathane bushes or something similar. And what is the point of adjustable lower control arms and such???

For mostly street use you're better off with something close to standard.

The Nismo suspension is pretty good if you can find it, or the various Japanese "street" setups.

Cheap coilovers or old Jap ones are way too stiff and the car won't handle well on anything other than an air strip.

You don't need adjustable control arms as long as you keep the ride height fairly normal.

My preferred setup on the street is to replace as many bushes as possible with polyurethane, keep the shocks and springs pretty standard, and add swaybars.

I wanna be able to fiddle with ride height that's why I was aiming for adj. Coilovers. That way when I change my wheels and breaks the car will still be pretty low (I know wheels don't make a huge difference)
Whats the difference between nolathane and polyurethane???
How thick should I be aiming for the swaybars??? And should I get adjustables???

Nolathane is a brand name, polyurethane is what they're made of.

If you absolutely need adjustable height then you're limited to very expensive suspension that will handle well, or cheap stuff that's nowhere near as good.

If you go for stiff suspension there's no point upgrading the swaybars.

Cool.

How expensive are we talking??? And what brands???

And I was under the impression that stiff suspension was good for control.
Im perhaps thinking not stiff suspension now. I still want good control but I want will need it atleast a little soft. (my missus made the decision for me)

Stiffer than stock is good, rock hard is not.

Contrary to what most people believe, super stiff spring rates are not the ultimate answer to great handling, you need movement in the suspension to keep the tyres on the ground and to allow weight shift.

6kg/mm would be a realistic limit for a street car.

What brands for dampers? Bilstein,Tein,Nismo,in that order.

Fair enough.

Could you explain the 6kg/mm thing to me. Is it like 6kg of swaybar down force per mm of suspension movement or something like that.

I had a look at bilstein they only carry skyline systems but I sent them a email.
I've had a look at tein and they seem pretty good.
Apparently the nismo site is down for construction but I know they'd be pretty decent anyway.

(btw why is Sti made in Texas instead of japan???)

I'm referring to spring rates, not swaybar tension.

6kg/mm is a spring rate, where the spring needs 6kg of weight to be put on it for it to compress by 1mm.

Swaybars may also be measured in a similar way,but they generally aren't marketed in that fashion. Usually the manufacturer gives a percentage comparison to stock,if they give any at all.

Bilstein are quite experienced with silvias. Contact Bilstein Australia/Heasman's steering and suspension at St Peters.

The STI logo in my avatar and referred to in my sig is not the STI you're thinking of. This one makes guns. The one you're referring to modifies Subarus.

Thanks those suspension threads make alot more sense now.

Yeah I sent them an email

Cool, guns...

Which swaybars should I be looking at???

I've heard whiteline and einbach are good.
