Nice write up. Its good to see you de-gayed the car first up. It looked shit-hot with those bolt-on flares. I reckon you get them fitted permanently ASAP!

I agree, the flares need to go on.

Even if it's just to give you half a chance of avoiding being defected. Atm,with the car running 4wd spec offset with the tyres hanging 2" outside of the guards, you're asking for trouble.

Yeah, gotta put the flares on.
I'd say paint them silver and use black bolts

Is there some rule about flares having to be metal for them to be "legal" or is that some rubbish I picked up from some forum somewhere?

probably rubbish going by the number of utes running around with factory plastic flares.

Dunno how legal fibreglass ones are to be honest but probably more likely to get you left alone than the mexican stance.

Flares are legal as long as they don't leave a protrusion from the bodywork that may be seen as being able to injure a pedestrian in the event that you hit one.

Where you will likely get into trouble is wheel track. those wheels are miles away from standard fitment,so I'd suggest you keep a standard set on hand to pass rego and clear defects. anything more than 50mm wider overall from standard is a fail for a pink slip if people go by the book. you're probably over by at least 200mm.

also, make sure you are maintaining adequate tyre to guard clearance throughout the entire lock to lock sweep. any contact of the rolling stock with the body within normal steering and suspension travel is another reason for failure.

Your speedo is going to be way out running that size tyre, and that still won't address the wheels being 2" outside of the guards.

It's your car though,do what you want. just don't cry to us and bitch about the police unfairly targetting you when you get defected.
