a few more crazy weight watchers ideas:
*the N/S window regulator can come out,and you can lock that (polycarbonate) window up,that's another couple of kg...
and if you want really ghetto, but light, you can do the same on the O/s door as well, and put a couple of holes through the door trim for lock pins so you can have it still able to open and close.

you can drop the loom out of the doors then as well, that's a few more grams.

*glovebox mounting tabs, any other unnecessary tabs under the dash and on the dash mounting cross bar can be cut off.

*dash cover can be ground away internally - foam, brackets etc...

*grommeted holes in the floor can be enlarged and fitted with larger diameter grommets... tiny gains there.

and so on...

Justin...

According to Dumhed, this car is already under 1000kg. I reckon it could be dropped to 950kg with some money spent on expensive shit

We already partially stripped the wiring out of tmb's doors....

Loom trimming is a pain in the arse, but you can pull a decent amount of weight out. All of the aircon stuff uses really large gauge wire.

If you're looking for fractions of a kg, I'm surprised you haven't ditched the headlights yet.

i only picked it up on sunday ffs!

The head lights are not necessary for the cars use :D I just have to come up with a way of preventing the leading edge of the bonnet from tearing off if there's nothing to tape it to....

I was going to make a panel to replace the lights, and get rid of them.
They're one of the heaviest single components left on the car.

The wiring loom has been reduced to the minimum that was simple to do and retained all the bits I wanted working at the time (car was still registered).
The air con wiring and all the original auto related stuff was removed, along with any large loom sections that didn't actually connect to anything.

I didn't relocate the fuses / relays, or do a full rewire because I wanted to keep everything modular. At the moment you can plug any of the factory bits in as normal and they'll work.
There's not a huge amount of weight to be saved from most of the wiring - and after doing a full rewire on the drift car I didn't feel like doing it again on this one :)

The front bar reo was trimmed down but the rear bar is one of the few parts that wasn't removed and hacked.

Windows stayed in because the car needed to be lockable, and waterproof.
You don't save much at all by removing the window regulator, but removing it, the window, and all the internal framework will save a fair bit of weight.
I was planning on going to polycarbonate windows and / or window nets.
The frameless doors make it a bit more difficult unfortunately.

Anyway, it's a fast car, and heaps of fun!
For anyone interested, I'll be putting my 260Z together eventually.
It won't be as fast as the Silvia, but it'll be just as fun I think.
Nothing was going to happen to it while I had the Silvia, and Dave needed a car :P

Yes, we are interested, any dumhed engineered creation is ALWAYS interesting. So put updates on here (or lack of, so we can give you a hard time for not progressing quickly enough!!)

So what engine are you planning then? Another Hektik NA? Another mongrel with PVC intake piping??

At the moment it's a bare rolling shell with an L26 in it.
It has the good 240Z SU carbies, an aftermarket cam, extractors, all brand new adjustable suspension bits, so should go pretty well.

I'm aiming for ridiculously light weight, and it should make over 100rwkw so it'll go ok.

Good to hear you are still progressing with the Z as that is one fine piece of machinery :)

Dumhed your a champ, helping Dave out as he was without a car, I can't wait to see Hello Kitty's progress...
