it's a modified just jap manifold.

It's far from top notch but there are some things done that impressed me, primarily both flanges being very meaty and were machined flat. Also the runners off the flanges and the collector were cleaned up nicely.

The not so good bits were elongated holes where they were obviously drilled in the wrong spot. One of the holes at the turbo flange wasn't tapped and a couple weren't square. And even though they machined it they didn't clean up the edges so there were some nice bits of metal poised to enter my turbo.

You couldn't fit it to a car with AC either. And i don't think the PS would fit but dont have one to trial.

weld job on it looks decent enough tho.
i guess that might be the case with china manifolds. did you ever look into tuneagent manifolds ? i read somewhere that they did a test on them against another no name ebay jobby and it was heaps better.

The welding on the gate section is by luis (that's the modified bit). The rest is still pretty good though.

Yeah, i was originally going to get a tuneagent one but the $400 advertised price on the website is ex GST, which i discovered when i was about to pay. That pissed me off so i went and bought the JJ one.

The engine is in the car!

But it's been one of those days where other than the initial dropping in of the engine nothing has gone to plan.

In particular, the gearbox x member that the s15 box used was not the same as an s13 one and easily mistaken, it's actually the same as an r32 gtst one. So quickly grabbed an s13 one off tmb only to find nothing was lining up. Turns out the factory engine mounts are offset and the replacement ones i got aren't, so the whole engine and box are sitting about 10-15mm further back so mount doesn't fit.

On the plus side, thats better for weight distribution but probably the bigger plus is there is more clearance between the sway bar and the winged sump. I reckon it would touch with the stock mounts when cornering.

I just hope that the tailshaft will fit ok.

Also had issues with gearbox bolts being different, though that was expected.

Fair few issues, but when does anything to do with cars go to plan???

Looking menacing already with that big turbo.

It's going to be on for young and old pretty soon :D

The S15 box was fitted with the auto S13 crossmember, and the auto tailshaft.

Neither of those will work on a 5 speed box :)

ah well, interesting to know that the auto x member is the same as a 32/33gtst manual one.

Tailshaft is under control. I have already sourced a det manual front half so just need to swap it over.

The pressure plate i got off you feels very similar to an HD xtreme on the pedal. I'm guessing around the 850kg mark.

back into it today. I want to get all the wiring reconnected and the drive line bolted up so i'm only really left to finish the radiator and oil cooler mounting, the surge tank install and the piping.

good stuff :)

that clutch is pretty tough!

did you use S13/14 flywheel bolts, or reuse the S15 ones?
Can't remember the difference but I think they changed them a bit.

You might have to remove the "no turbos" sticker :P

nah, i just want to get a bigger circle with the cross through it so its no no turbo!

The s15 ones were way too long. I got some s13 ones a while back.

Didn't get as much done today as i would have liked.

Had issues sourcing some nyloc nuts for the new engine mounts as i don't trust the spring washer and regular nut supplied.

slotted the gearbox cross member so that it fit, got the tail shaft on and hit myself in the head with a spanner in the process when it slipped off the nut...

started replacing the fuel lines and test fitted the viscous fan and shroud to check for clearance. Looks like i'll have to move the radiator further back which as a bonus means i can fit the oil cooler between the intercooler and radiator now :) But also means i have no hope of using the stock top radiator block fitting so it'll have to be modified....

i had some of the original 595rs's on the front of the skyline. I paid full price from spot on tyres in campbelltown. They are probably still on the front of locky's s14.

I liked them but they were still a few seconds a lap slower around wakefield. ok on a damp track but still pretty poor on a wet track. There was a small window where they were quicker than my old re55's, basically between when it stopped raining to the point any standing water cleared.

Hello kitty had toyo r888's and will soon have re55's

A bit more progress today.

I chopped up the top radiator thingy and had luis at drift garage weld it up for me.

Pics comparing the final results to an s13 one. They aren't quite the same to begine with but you can see i had the point the outlet up and also took a v out of the side to angle it towards the radiator inlet

Image

Image

While i was there i also had some new mounts welded onto the cooler so i can secure that in it's new location.

Reasonable productive day today.

Turbo fitted and all lines installed
Wastegate installed
Boost control solenoid installed and lines run
Intake pipe sorted along with mounting the afm
Intercooler piping all cut and marked up ready for welding
Intercooler mounted
top radiator hose sorted

crappy photo about an hour before i finished up. Unfortunately i couldn't hold the camera still despite 3 tries so this is the best shot.

Image

Tomorrow should see the intercooler piping all welded up and everything bolted up and the mounts/brackets made for everything.

Unfortunately it looks like i have a t3 flange instead of a gt30 flange here so i couldn't really get started on the exhaust which i'm a bit cranky about.

small update:

All inlet piping is welded, painted and on the car (it's great just having 2 short bits of pipe)
oil cooler braided lines all shortened, cleaned and installed.
inlet manifold installed properly (it's only every been sat on in the photos)
Boost controller mounted, powered up and lines run (wiring to solenoid still to do)
afm wiring done
old thermo fan wiring stripped out of the loom
shroud mounted to radiator
bottom radiator hose all sorted
All wiring installed and lines run

All these little bits of work are taking fuck loads more time than expected. Or i'm just getting slower in my old age.

Work for this week:

get flange and start fabricating the dump.
mount fuel pump and surge tank and wire up
make brackets for radiator top mounts, intercooler top mounts, oil cooler and pod filter
finish air guides for radiator and intercooler
make some new mounts for the front bar (but can fall back on the old ones if needed)

The plus is the list of things to do is getting shorter and less important for the tune. I have a couple of days up my sleeve after the tune to finish off luckily.
