Hey Guys

Just wondering whether those out their that have ps3's have come across this issue. I play Cold of Duty modern warfare and world at war online. Ever since i bought Modern Warfare i could never jump online and find a match straight away would sit there for as long as i would leave it, with "getting match quality" in top right corner of the screen. I would need to create a private match and run about in their for about 1 minute, exit out, find a game online and then instantly it would throw me into a match and off i went no problems. Stopped playing PS3 for a while and i have recently bought world at war and i have to do the same thing Private match, exit out, go online, instantly puts me in a match BUT now i go into the first match and if im lucky i see it through to the end to which i get an error "ethernet cable disconnected" followed by black screen "this is a dns error (random no.s)"

This happens on World at war and modern warfare guaranteed each time in that exact order. Normally i turn ps3 off > reboot router > go through steps....

Anyone heard of this or had this same issue ??

PS3 is on a wired connection atm with auto settings, Nat type 2, Upnp on
Have tried wireless with auto settings same as wired, does the exact same thing in order as mentioned - not a 100% if the Ethernet cable disconnected message comes up though.

when im trying to find a game if it doesn't get into a room within 5 seconds i try again.
If im having troubles sometimes i will exit back to single player menu, then go thru to multiplayer online menu again and usually that does the trick.
Btw my ps3 add is GODlikeDUFFMAN
COD4 FTW

Yeah i do the same keep exiting and reentering till i find a match.

COD5 is worse for that problem.

I don't use a router, there a waste of time imo, they always crash, loose memory , i just run cables to the modem and never have any problems.

What it is is your uPnP and port configuration. You will need to set the Ps3 as a DMZ on your router for the best expierence. make sure your ps3 can see the network first. Make sure nPnP is enabled on your router, this will allow the ps3 to automatically open ports and connections without the router blocking them.

Ronin had the same problem and with a qucik change of settings fixed it.

if its in the DMZ, then UPnP wont matter because there is no router infront of it. thats why its working. its the ports on your router thats causing the problem.

FYI UPnP is shit. its very shit. manually find what you need and open them manually. give your PS3 a static address on your network and you shouldnt have the problems again

putting a machine in a DMZ is a poor way of getting it working. its also a security risk for your PS3 being outside the router.

Hey Guys

Thanks for the replies. The PS3 has been setup both statically and DHCP on both wired and wireless - doesn't make a difference. As far as UPnP goes it is enabled on the router and the PS3 shows UPnP as active. I think Zei is on the right track with ports - i had many issues with wow updates not being able to come through, i opened up the necessary ports and off it went haven't had any issues since. Although how do i go about finding out what ports i need to open for the PS3 ??

Many thanks again guys = )

Looking through some forums on the net and ive come across this http://portforward.com/cports.htm (scroll down to COD4 & world at war) Infinity ard and COD websites were no help. Might try the ports they have suggested when i get home from work and let you guys know how it went.

This is what you're after:

http://au.playstation.com/support/ps3/gettingonline/failedconnection.jhtml
It has a table showing what ports you need to open.

Configured router to allow the ports listed. And still doing the same thing = ( Private match for a minute > then jump onto a game > play the game or get half way through it > game lobby closed signed out of ps3 network > black screen this is a dns error....

Might try the ports that the other website has suggested ?

Hey Guys

Removed the port forwarding rules that the ps3 website recommended and have port forwarded according to portforwarding.com
So far so good i have played a few matches in a row and when the game lobby closes its because the host has gone or timed out - but i can jump straight into another game. I did get disconnected once but i signed back in (usually black DNS screen pops up then) and search and jump into another match fairly quickly.

Still need to do the private match for a minute before i can jump onto anything online.

ill keep you posted if anything happens and thank you for your help guys = D
