Anyone sat this exam ? or preparing to sit this exam ?

How much study time is involved ? I've just started studying to sit the exam, is their any recommendations that anyone can make ? Is a test environment worth setting up or just straight out reading ? What are your experiences?

hey champ..

im in the process of getting it aswell, i think its only a theory test..well so far from what ive heard. you got to remember alot of shit about the Microsoft network structure and OS.

i would also like to know more about it if someone else out there is doing it or has already done it

there is theory and practical. and depending on what electives you do, you might need to know subnetting and the network layer stack etc.....

Any study tips ? i didn't realise their was more than one exam

1 exam makes you an MCP, 3 makes you an MCSA and 5 or 6 make you MCSE

buy the books and study like shit, if you can find them, get practice tests because the books only give you 75% of the exam material, because MS want you to fail so you have to pay over and over to do them again.

MCSA is 4 and MSCE is 7 exams. im curently trying for my MCSA first, pretty much they are the same exams for the MCSE yuo just need to sit another 2 to become a MCSE.

the 70-290 and 70-27 exams are pretty easy. you have to get i think it is 700 points to pass which i think is about 80 % 3 hours is plenty to do the tests. i did a course for the 70-290 (work paied for it) that did help but if you have decent knowldge/experience with 2K3 and XP you should be able to pass ok.

everyone says the hardest exam is the 70-291 whcih is the one i am not looking forward to as it goes into more advanced networking such like subnetting and sites and services. Subnetting is a killer well alteast i hate it.

oh and yeah there are a few simulaiton tests well at least i got some but then i know some people that just got mulitple choice so it is different for every one. also a good book to read are the Exam Cram books, i found the microsoft bokos way to in depth. Try gettings some test king Q&A's they are pretty helpfull.

2nd this! done a bit more in depth research the books you are referring to are those the self paced training kits ??

Also where abouts are they held anywhere in the hills area ?

yeah the slef paced ones are the ones im talking about, the onlt good thing about them is they come with the mesure up CD which simulated the test enviroment and gives to practice questions.

I went in the City from Memory the closet to the hills would be parra. i could be wrong though.

Yea Parra would be ok for me, I hate going into the city. I was actually thinking of getting the training kits and setting up a test environment at home ( 2-3 pc's with one acting as the server, switch, printer etc etc) and learning like that.

you only need 1 machine

download microsoft virtual PC and have multiple virtual PCs on the one machine. saves time and cost and electricity!

if you cant set that up, you shouldnt be doing IT

or you can get VMware as well. i think its free or something... ummm there are a couple of virtualisation softwares. get 2008 server and use hyper-v lol

MS virtual Server is free, it is a great tool, just make sure you got alot of memory on your computer if you want to create a Virtual LAN. you will also need Serial codes for products you try to install.

For your 2k3 server put it on a domian and get use to using Active directory users and computers, install DHCP, DNS, and WSUS once you know how to use all those things plus the basics like print servers and disks you should be able to pass the 70-290. Make sure you also know group Policy and NTFS permisisons.
