Hey,

Does anyone know how to test for Line attenuation and noise margin etc?
I have the Netgear DG834GSP and i wanted to see what it was at but have been unable to find a way.

Sorry this is what I ment... (don't be offended, its a very polite way to say go and do a little bit of research)

hmmmm, isn't your modem the Optus shipped version of the Netgear Router? Sorry if I was incorrect on that. I think you will still get a good idea by reading the documentation.

also, try http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/ those guys are very helpful for this type of Q.

Ohhh...RTFM..got it. Lol. Yes i do have the Optus supplied modem but my router login doesn't look or say anything like what it has.

If it's anything like my netgear one, when you login to the router and it brings you up to it's main page where it shows you your adsl/lan ports/moden status etc, it then has a "connection status" and "show statistics" button at the bottom. With mine the show statistics bit brings up up the statis for all my connections through the router and the dsl links connection, line attenuation and noise margin.

Hope this is like yours and helps ya.

It was! Thank you so much. Anyways got my results and read around about what numbers to get. Is mine good?

Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 7410 kbps 816 kbps
Line Attenuation 35 db 9.5 db
Noise Margin 7 db 13 db

Those are mine atm... need to filter out some more lines with some central line speeder or some shit w/foxtels...stupid digital crap wanting a phone cable to rent movies n all... either way, it causes me to get slower speeds =(

I'm 3.5, my friend is 2.3 or something and he gets 3mbits...

I'm getting about 6mbit at my current house

My last place was 2 blocks from the exchange and got a steady 16-18mbit. That was nice
