check to see if you can flash your firmware with DD-WRT its can make your $10.00 router into like a $600.00 router. but you will need to check to see if they support your model.

Guys this is an excellent firmware for routers, it will enhance gaming (lower Ping) for all connections, PS3, PS2, Xbox360 etc, as it provides really good settings and features that cheap routers don't.

visit dd-wrt.com

Will it void my warranty if it works? And what happens if it doesn't cause my router isn't listed.

if your router isn't listed, check their site for routers which are black listed.... it could be that your model/brand is not suppported or it could be that that it has less than 2mb of onboard ram.

Internet still dropping out. It's less frequent like not everyday but when it drops out it keeps dropping out.

Might buy myself a new modem to see if my modem or my computer is the problem.

Anyone know any good ADSL2+ modems?

i dont know if this is relevant...do you have foxtel?

my cousin was having a weird problem. when watching foxtel and on the internet, when he started downloading something, a song for instance, the foxtel reception would become really bad during the download. his internet would never drop out though...

a Telstra tech fixed it up today. he did some work on the "telegraph pole".

i dont know if this could have any resemblance to the probs that you are having

thanks, im a kick ass photographer :P

actually its a bit of post processing, pretty easy!

go for billion, cisco (if you can afford it), linksys or netgear. steer clear of d-link, people say that of netgear too, but ive never had problems with their stuff. and anything thats broken has been replaced on the spot without question.

Yeah I've been looking at those but i need to ask a few questions.

1.Which would be good for gaming xbox live etc?
2. Which would be good for P2P?
3. Which would have the best speed capabilites?

1. Any

2. Any

3. Check APC magazine, they review modems regularly. maybe even choice magazine, computer choice actually.

tolarances and line sync etc and usage are all covered in reviews. you want something thats an easy interface, some of the 'better' brands will be for the IT nerds like me that can configure from a command line, but other ones you configure from a web interface and its all point and click. the easier the better IMO.

dude have you checked your NIC like try out a new one or somthing and see it that drops out... plug another computer into that router and see if it drops out before you buy a new one... if optus has already given you a new one then theres a good chance the problem could be a hardware issue....

go by a Linksys i think there pretty good... or Dlink cheap and pretty good if you really wanted a new router..

well even if you formated your computer that isnt going to justify if your NIC isnt working... your saying it drops out after a while so it could be an intermittant problem with your NIC... over heating etc.. intermittantly.
