I have just got a laptop for me and my girl and we want to get wireless internet for it.
We live in NSW postcode 2536, so some providers may not work as they would in the cities.

Just wondering who you would recomend?, our main uses would be the occasional song download and searching for info for me and my missus, plus her uni stuff.

Thanks guys/gals..

Vodafone seem ok, I dont know much about their modem or modems themselves for that matter.

I just dont like the 2yr contract though, I would prefer just one 1yr for now.

Just checked 3, not coverage... checking optus now.

Optus has 24 month plan aswell, seems most of them do.

Vodafone seems like a winner,
*free usb modem (not sure if its good or not)
*$49/month for 5gb.

all the modems are the same, however the virgin and the 3 one have the software ON the modem, the vodafone one needs a CD

other than that they are all HSDPA blah blah woof woof

sarah, you always complain how yours drops out. our 5 voda ones from work dont drop out :P

another IT guy here has a personal one from 3, and he said its fine, but if you go over your download limit, they will charge you, voda and virgin will slow down your speed

so watch out for that also

Yeah mine drops out because my modem is buggered. Im too rough and the modems too fragile. I move around too much and well.. you get the point.

Other than that i think its a good service.. I got a heaps good deal with mine as i got a new phone, 530 worth of credit a month, free wireless modem + broadband speed which only gets slowed when i go over the limit. All for $80 a month. I was paying that ALONE just for credit a month, so the rest is free

My mate is with 3.. She had o.k coverage when she was living at Fairfield but now she is living at home again in Green Valley she has NIL coverage but still has to pay as shes in a contract. Plus she got charged HEAPS for going over her limit. GHEY. I would rather just have me speed slowed, still double times quicker than dialup even when it is slowed.

have you looked into telstra?

i know it more dear but it for a reason, better coverage better support when shit goes wrong. less down time n shit.

also it 24 months and 12 months but if you pull out the early termination fees are way less then mobiles and much more affordable. so check this up with other providers too coz that might be the case.

I'll save you the hassle and tell you we're not rolling 3G out at places like 2356 until about late last 1/4 in the year, so the wireless VF broadband won't be an option there for a while.

I am in the same boat as you JC-
I called my mate who works for optus and asked for a non biased opinion.
He said- yeah- the rate at optus is very good right now.
24 months contract (not negotiable apparently)
6gig $50 monthly. However there is 4months free.
So about $42 a month.

Vodaphone was $40 month but I think he said 4 gig.
Anyways. More research required just a heads up.

Check coverage from here also http://www2.optus.com.au

I had a look MK, it appears I can get 'GSM/GPRS On Street'.
Optus prices seem pretty reasonable to.
