get cable if you can or can afford it

failing that, get adsl 2, but you need a phone line as well, i think iinet (maybe) offer internet and you DONT need to pay line rental, thus getting rid of your home phone. most people use their mobiles anyway these days.

there is a broadband comparison website somwhere, i dont know it, i just look in my APC magazine lol

Always used Internode for years. If they have a DSL2+ DSLAM in your area, go for it!

i've been with TPG for a while now and they not too bad. have a look on their website to see if you can get the ADSL2 with your home phone (i think you need to be with telstra to qualify though).

There is a ISP comparison there.

Who can you get in your local area? How much pron do you intend to download per month?

Looks like you're stuck with cable then, cos the 'un-wired' piece of crap is useless. If you gotta make a choice between optus or telstra... i'd have to strongly suggest siding with optus if you can get it.. cos telstra...just...i won't even go into why they are so godamn useless..

iinet do naked ADSL2+ (meaning you don't need a phone line).
But, read the terms and Conditions... they count uploads and downloads in their quotas (yet don't do this on their nomral ADSL connections, just on naked).
If they didn't do that then I'd consider getting it myself.

But seriously, unwired is truly horrific. ANY form of dsl/cable pwns it.

IF you are planning to using a home phone (with line rental) then DSL is probably the way to go. But, your place may also be pre-wired for foxtel so in that case Bigpond cable would be an easy install.
