i constantly see Zei and other mods locking threads of ppl who are new and just join up to post stuff for sale...

most of the time, those threads have contact details in them, or prospective buyers can just PM them.. so, locking the thread doesn't prevent the seller from doing just that. people can still get in touch with them to buy their stuff

just a suggestion, why dont you delete the thread altogether - that way they cant get a sale out of it (due to no contact details being visible), and it'll teach them betterer

or, just ignore me and lock this thread! 8)

who says the contact details are correct?? :P

yes you CAN contact them via PM. but some people cant be bothered doing that.

also, for the people that DO make their first post on their first day a FS item. i think im going to start banning with no warnings.

how about putting a mod in the forum that doesnt allow new threads to be created in the FS section until your post count is like 10-20 or something?

its not an exact science, and some people have been members for 2 years yet have 10 posts to their names. they dont post often, but they have been regular members for ages. this would stop them from posting also

this is why its a human decision, we cant create a rule that will lock out some of our 'lurking' members. hence why i check out the join date and how many posts you have before i click the lock button and edit your posts :P

A posting rule of 1 Month Sounds ok.

We also don't want to impose an automatic 20+ post criteria as it can lead to excess spamming. So rather than cleaning up 20 bullshit threads and locking a for sale post, we just lock the post.

The reason we don't delete is becasue when we do they generally reappear the next day and we can't leave a message for the seller in a deleted thread either.

And yes, we do have a bit of fun with some of the locked fs posts.

lol ok then boys.. i'll leave it up to your infinite moderator wisdom.. 8)

(ps, agree that a minimum count to post in FS = more bullshit spamming.. and zei seems to have that under control without the help of n00bs too)

Can you stop people from posting based on how long they have been a member? Because quite often the guys who are posting for the first time and that first post is in the FS section have generally joined that day...

if its a first post and its a FS one, there is NO guarantee that ANY contact details are correct.

if they post elsewhere and dont whore, then ill leave it.

as said over and OVER, this is NOT a free trading post.

lol. kudos to whoever did that one.

on the bright side, you are probably better off with an std than an FJ bluebird :)

I wish it were real, I was just talking scheizer because I would have personally found that occuring to be of high amusement value, and I don't really have a large wad of cash here waiting to spend on ladies in red, or red rocker covers. =)

Zei - you were supposed to see the humorous side... you feel more strongly about this topic than I ever imagined ;) I mean c'mon, it involved fast women and FJ powered cars - thats a high benchmark right there!
