That particular storm did actually pass over Sydney (right over the top literally).

SES where put on high alert, having most of the Headquaters manned during the build-up to the storm.

I was watching 2 storm cells during the night, one was a super cold snap coming from the west, from Orange/Bathurst area, moving across to the mountains and then down the mountains and into Sydney, and the other off the coast from a cylcone that was siuated right in the middle of Australia and NZ.

Due to the massive cold snap coming down, it actually pushed the warmer air upwards from about 5kms off the coastline, giving us maybe 20km/h winds, but then rose to almost 2,000 meters.

Planes and air traffic where grounded due to gusts of up to 170km/h right in the main flight paths, but all Sydney ground level got was bloody cold.

This is also why most of the cloud was gone on the Wednesday when everyone woke up, because the strong winds pushed all the rainfall away (didn't stay away long though :( )
