Dear all,

Just wanted to boast that chelsea beat liverpool today in the morining 1-0. It should be interesting what happens in the second leg in anfield. It was a good math against ac milan and man u as well. I am predicting chelsea to overcome the 3 points to win the english league again and real madrid to go trophyless again.......... :)

Well at least with soccer/football its a worldwide sport that has not lost its popularity, compared to some of the other sports.

Robin Williams summed SOCCER up well. 'football for damaged people'.

to be fair,I don't watch any code of football anymore, even though I've played them all bar aussie rules at some point.

professional sport generally is ridiculous. noone should be paid (notice I didn't say earn) the kind of money these people do for getting together and advertising for companies whilst being way too serious about what's supposed to be a fun diversion.
they're called 'sports' for a reason, they're supposed to be fun, social exercise.
not a means for milking more cash out of spectators whilst fostering bigotry and violence.

Man U FTW! :D

They can do the treble again. It could be a Man U vs Chelsea champions league final, as well as FA cup final, also the Premiership is going down to the wire...

Should be very good.

Seeing as I can occasionally put a word or two together in a mostly intelligible manner, maybe that'd be a good idea.

I'll likely get flamed now,but here we go anyway.
as for what the thread is supposed to be about, can anyone explain to me logically why English football is so exciting?

I can't see how a game where people rarely even have a decisive result after over an hour's play can be so enthralling, and make people so intensely passionate about their team that they feel the need to riot and wreck everything around them whenever and wherever they spectate.
going to a game is just an excuse to get pissed and beat people up right? they're not actually watching the field are they?

I can understand the reason why people rarely score: the standard of play is so good that getting by the defense is quite difficult. isn't it about time something was changed then?
winning a championship by being better at extra overtime penalty kicks for being the best world championship diver surely can't be helping the sport any.
how's all that bandwagon enthusiasm going after Australia was kicked out of the world cup after losing on just such a penalty? is anyone still watching the game?
what's it cost to get into a premier league game to spectate? is it worth it?
how passionate do you have to be to sit there and watch defeated attack after defeated attack for the whole game period, and then watch your team win or lose or even tie based on penalties? surely that must be frustrating.

I'm not a fan of rubgy or league, nor even American football anymore.
I don't follow soccer either.
however,as I stated above,I've played all of these, including soccer/football so I do have some insight into how each works, and what it's like to be on the field, and in the stands spectating.

with the other codes, people score, posession is gained and lost, and things happen. losing scores can be chased down and beaten, sure victories can errode as a game goes on,and you can follow the motions as the game goes on. I don't really see that in the football I've watched.

I hope someone can discuss this a bit with me without fanatic enthusiasm getting in the way. I'm not trying to be inflammatory here,I just want a bit of an explanation as to what keeps you watching.

why you feel the need to support a team so strongly, especially one in a place you don't live in,and may never have even visited. what makes you a die hard Man U supporter over Fullham? or Chelsea,or Derby,or whoever? what's the difference?
