Hey lads,
I've just got myself some bike 'L's and a '99 Kawasaki GPX250. This got me thinking: Does anyone else here ride?

NEVAR!!!! It's just that 350km to a 15L tank, no traffic jams and almost pornographic parking spots are pretty attractive. Well, that and bikes look like fun ;)

I really want to get my bike licence. My ride to work each day would be pretty cruisy - no multi laned roads to be worried about.

How much did your bike cost? That's the only thing holding me back at the moment. I can't really afford the bike and all the gear. :(

I used to have a bike, but sold it because I didn't want to spend the money keeping two vehicles on the road, and wanted to retain some life :P

Still, it was pretty fun :)

would love to have a bike as a get around vehicle or the occasional bike cruise, i mean it seems like a bit of waste driving the s15 to the milkshop for a redskin and chocolate milk.

I've always said I would buy a cbr as 2nd vehicle, but funds and lack of steel nuts prohibits me

nah I've tried both and I find driving to be more satisfying.

It's all personal preference.

ahh yeah, but it depends what u have ridden,.. u cant really compare a learner legal bike to a silvia..

..and its all about the kneedown! \m/

Actually I think a reasonably quick 250 is pretty comparable to a Silvia.
It's agile, light, responsive, and has enough power that you need to brake for the next corner - which is what really matters.

kneedown, toe down, foot pegs / gear lever down, whatever you want down I still didn't find it quite as fun as getting a nicely sorted car to do exactly what you want.
Also the car's faster through the twisties :P
I've chased down big sports bikes through the mountains in Silvias, and on a 250.
In the end I like riding, but I like driving and working on cars more.

Yeah I see what ur saying, but every learner went through that stage, but a 250 is like a corolla in bike terms,.. should ride a 600 or litre bike :) thats where all the fun comes into it, 250 is a nugget in comparison to anything else really..

but yeah, not gunna argue with ya, just try and get on something bigger if you get the chance, u will love it!

I've never been that into power really though, so I don't think it'll make much difference (apart from being heavier and not handling as well)

I've ridden bigger bikes too, but not nearly as extensively.
I've also ridden dirt bikes for many years.

Either way, I don't want to get hooked on bikes, since it's bad enough with cars at the moment..
I've now driven what is probably the fastest Silvia in the country, and I'm pretty happy to keep doing that :)

Whoa! I think I'm going to have to quit my job just to keep up with the forums... Catching up:

That's the thing, the bike was only $2250, mostly becuase it'd been dropped. It's just cosmetic though, and I tell everyone it's drift damage :P

As for the gear, I once heard someone say "...spend your money on gear, and the change on the bike." While I didn't quite spend as much on the gear as the bike, I did come reasonably close.

When I get a little bit better, I'd like to get one of the bigger GSX-R's *drool*, maybe you'll be in the market for a 250

:D The problem with just 'taking the bike down to the milkshop' is that you spend ten minutes getting all of your gear on and getting the bike out. Some people get around that by not wearing a full set of gear, but if you end up doing the blacktop luge, you get skinned alive. Either way it's not much fun :P

Firstly, *drool* *drool* *drool*. I'm planning on getting a K1 Gixxer 1000 when I become less crap at riding (and less poor :)).

However, I don't know that I can totally agree with you or DumHed on the riding vs. driving thing. I find them to be two, seperate (but both very enjoyable) things to do. The great thing about the bike though, is that if you drop it on yourself you probably wont die, unlike a car

Wait 'till you ride the Gixxer!! :)
