Dear all,

Just wanted a debate with some people against copy vs orginal assessories for cars. For me personally i am a mixtuire. My nismo seats are copies, while such performance products such as the cusco stuct barce and tower bar are orginal. What do people think of coipes?

Some copies are ok, such as the cheapo strut braces, stickers and some body kits. Some things you the copies just dont cut it, imo like rims.

or sumps that empty their contents onto the floor overnight...

some things are pretty generic (like the afformentioned strut braces,or urethane bushes, catch cans, etc.),others aren't (like pistons, brake discs, turbos, etc.),and brand name is all you'd conscionably use.

there's also the whole dodgy thieving someone else's work, and scamming out of copyrights thing to consider as well, poor workmanship and no warranty aside when you're talking copies. with some things, you DO get what you pay for.

Justin...

As said above some things are ok some are not.

You just have to use your judgment for what parts you are going to buy.

For me if its a moveing part or a importnt part only good brand name but a few of the lesser parts are fine.

Unfortunately I'm a bit of an original fiend on a copy budget!

If I have the funds, I will go original wherever possible.

For example, I spent ages searching for my Nismo front bar. I wanted the genuine item, which are rare, and even rarer to be found in my specific colour. I spent six months or so looking and finally I got one off Biggles.

Another thing which I think is important is rims. Personally, I've just bought some second hand rims (should be delivered today) and whilst I know they aren't Nismo LMGT-4 or whatever, they are lightweight one-piece Japanese racing rims.

I wouldn't buy Tempe Tyres or any shit like that.

Yeah with rims I had a choice of getting a copy volks te37 rims but decided something like that which would affect the safety of the car or the performance I wouldnt go along that path. Its that modifying cars is a expensive hobby more so than any other hobbies unless u collect gold nuggets  For me some of the next things for copy that is nismo steering wheel, gear knob, aftermarket knob. For something like K N air filter or engine wise I will go orginal.

One of my friend that loves his ae 86 has all TRD orginal stuff. He even was able to track down the discontinuted stuff as well. I admire people for being honest all the way but I dont have a deep budget or pocket.

Wow thats a first. Did u have any problems fitting the bodykit on or any hacking involved to fit it on? Any gaps in the kit?

there was ALOT of prep done to the orginal to get it perfect.

but the problem with it was that the way it was made, too much resin, it was too stiff, and the first one i had on the car cracked and warped everywhere and rippled all over the place

the copy didnt do any of the above and since it was moulded from the perfect kit it went straight on, not a single gap, followed the EXACT lines of the car to the mm.
