Post subject:  led dash

hi has anyone converted the lights behind the dash into led?? i noticed a post by 3am on the climate control but couldnt find anything on the actual dash itself.

I think the dash bulbs are wedge type, does anyone know the bulb model for these?? that way i can just get the led wedge bulb to replace it.

thanks guys

cant u fix that with higher intensity led's?? you can actually get wedge style disperse led's now, i just need to check out the type of bulb i need, it would be a direct replacement if thats the case.

ill have a look at the bulbs this arvo

i tried doing it,

the problem with it not being bright enough stems from the tint that the light comes thru,

i have a 1999 mr2, and the tint it like an orange tint behind the faces.
if you can get rid of the tint, and replacie it with clear, or a different colour, then your options are endles, but i already stuffed my temp guage in the attempt, so i gave up trying to pull the guage cluster to pieces.

be careful if you start pulling off the needles, you dont want to stuf the calibration etc.

sounds like too much effort considering the el gauge kits on offer.

perhaps it is different for s13 to s15.

i tried replacing them, and i hae refractor LED's in blue cos blue was the colour i wanted, but blue thru the tinting on the back of the guage faces, meant it came out a touch funky coloured.

meanwhile...

has anyone tried putting on a reverse glow or EL guage face before? on an s15? i duno how to do it, and i dont wanna stuff my guages. I found a kit on the net, ebay i think it was, but the speedo went to 260km/h, and mine only goes to 180km/h, what would be involved in recalibrating the needle to handle the new speedo?

for my dash I used the leds with the weird V type lense, they arent bright enough and the light disipation sucks

If I was going to do it again I'd try the ones that have like 5 leds, one facing forward and 4 outwards.

like these

So how do LEDs look behind S15 clusters?

Does anyone have pics or experience with replacements?

i changed my s14 wit blue ones similar to these found on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com.au/AUTOTECNICA-BLUE ... otohosting
but the ones i used had 5 LED's on them, pointing in different directions so the light is more equally distributed. They fit perfectly into the holes at the back of the cluster. its nice and bright. Been in there for about 6 months now with no problems. i will try to get some pics up.

p.s. the problem with using blue ones is that you wont be able to see clearly the redline on the revs.
