I would like to enclose my air cleaner and I am looking for ideas on how to do it. It would be nice if someone made a bolt in box that fit straight in and had provision for a big air cleaner but I doubt that is going to happen..

I would like to fit an oval filter inside the box to keep the profile low but still have decent air flow. I want to use the standard hole in the gaurd for air intake since no pipes will be going through there.

Suggestion please... (not rude ones splash)

Looking to use a filter like this... K&N - Filter Elemnt - Universal 9" X 5.5" X 5.5"

I have a 350Z airbox you could try.
It's about as close to a pod filter in a box as you can get, and it's super easy to take the element out.
It'd come close to lining up perfectly with your high mount turbo I think.

Not sure that would quite work. The new radiator will sit closer to the engine and I think it will foul.

Thinking it should be that hard to knock one up out of sheet metal, If I template it up with cardboard first and get someone to run a couple of welds...

come and grab the air box if you want to try it out anyway. I was going to use it on my car but the angle it sits at doesn't work with the n/a intake plumbing.

Did it sit on the same angle in your car? What size is the outlet?

it would be easiest to sit it in the same angle as the 350Z, which points towards the turbo I don't have :P

The outlet is 75 or 80mm I think. It could be made larger too if necessary.

Hopefully I should have my new radiator in a week or so and then I might have a better idea of what space I have to work with. Would be nice to have something tidy if possible. Also need to take into consideration the pipe going to the intercooler which may pass through that area.

How hard is it to remove the relays for the pop up headlights? Can they be taken out of the black plastic box without too much trouble?

yeah they can, but I think it'd be easier just to move the box a bit for more clearance.

I just did what you described about Paul. Made soemthing outta cardboard and just kept refining it. I then got some thin aliminium off a mate of mine, and we made the cardboard shape. Works quite well.

oricle has also made one for his sil using a similar method.

I like the idea of something custom just to give it a neat finish and to utilise the space as efficently as posssible. What did it wind up costing you?

I figure five of the sides could be just folded up and welded, use a hinge on the top to service filter. Or if I didnt want to weld it, I could fold right angles on a few of the edges and put screws or bolts in.

Was thinking last night how I could make neat bends..

A sheet metal bender works well for making neat bends :)

Problem is I cant remember where I left mine :D I guess I could cut it to shape and get them to fold and weld at the same time. Or maybe just take the template in and let them do it all.
