I did somthing similar on my old car.
But don't go to the trouble or expense of welds and hinges and stuff it's not nessessary.
I thought mine was pretty neat using just 4 or 5 screws on the whole construction.
Oh yeah i made a cardboard template.
A mate of mine copied the design and used nutserts to hold his together for that extra bling appeal (and cos he get em from work lol).

That's what I'm looking for, maybe something that takes a bigger airfilter but that looks smart without being over the top, maybe a bit of black paint to fade it in a bit...

Here's an older pic of my engine, you can see the custom air box.
Performance Metalcraft made it up for me. Awesome quality and looks good (in my opinion.)

I am going to wait until I have manifold and turbo back in before I make any decisions so I can see where the pipes fall and how much space is left. If I go custom I would probably go with something like Nebuchernezzer's so I could relocate the power steering container further away from the turbo compressor housing. I would probably have to relocate the fuse box inside the air cleaner too since they are in a bad spot.
