Hi Guys,

Came across a friend that is selling the G-tech meters for around $60, just wondering what their standard retail costs, and if $60 is worth it or not.

Another friend of mine has 1, and he's tested the 1/4 mile reading at Eastern Creek and the meter was 0.02 seconds incorrect, and 0.8Mph faster than the computer at the track, which is damn close.

He has also Dyno'd the car at 3 different Dyno meters, and the g-tech was within 2kw at the wheels of the average reading of all 3, again, this is close enough for me, it's just something I want to get a guage on, and be fairly accurate, but not so worried about 100% accurate.

Anyway, $60, is it worth it?

B.

It's definately not fake, I know this for a fact, but it's the early model, the G-Tech pro, not the G-Tech SS or SR.

Since the new series gtechs came out, the older ones are selling for next to nothing. They still work fine though

I have a G-tech pro, not the new one. I got it for $50 off ebay and it works a treat. It has been used in my S15, a mates XR6T and a VT Clubsport and it has proven very reliable against dyno figures and track timing devices. The only problem I had was the connector that goes into the cigarette lighter point didn't fit properly so I had to solder a different fitting on. This actually gave me a better fit as the cords weren't being stretched and pulling on the g-tech. I think they are definately worth it.

Can someone refresh my memory as to what functions these G-Techs offer?

I might be interested in one.

they can show you 1/4mile time plus trap speed, horsepower and g-forces...the horsepower readings are a little out on a turbo car thou

Why would the HP readings be off for a turbo? It uses exactly the same equations for all engines and all cars accelerate the same. It uses the cars weight versus the g-forces under acceleration to determine real world horsepower. I have run mine in two different turbo cars and the HP readings were very accurate against known figures (ie dyno runs and fatory claimed power figures). The units measure both continuous g-forces and max g-forces. You can use this to see how hard you can push around corners and the max g-force function to test braking ability both before and after mods to the brake system such as different pads or rotors. The most important factor when using HP mode is getting the cars weight correct. You need both the cars weight and the drivers weight. You can't just use the cars tare weight and not factor in driver and a full tank of fuel or half a tank of fuel. I found the best way is to fill the car up, find a weighbridge and get an accurate reading that way.

Well, in that case I'd consider buying one for $60.

it said in the instruction manual for the gtech that the hp readings for turbo cars may be out, I assumed this would be due to the power change between being on boost or not. But if you've tested it against a dyno and it was pretty accurate then that's proof enough that it's pretty accurate.
