I thought I'd start a post where you guys could all post what you've been defected for and when/where it was. I'm sure there are some other people out there like me who are yet to be defected, and want to do whatever they can to make sure it stays that way!

I was also wondering if there was a website - Govt. affiliated or otherwise, where I could get a comrehensive listing of all the potential things that you can be defected for (and yes, and know it's gunna be a BIG list - bloody pigs).

So without further ado, let the defect stories begin!

J,

Go to this site and enter the word Defect in the search field, should be able to help you out.

http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/index.htm

With defect, it really depends on whos the coppers and stuff, cause sometimes they can A$$hole or some are very kool,

Usually, if you modify anyting that isn't factory made, is a defect except for a few minors such as wheels ( one size up only ) n etc.
And then you have the usual stuff, that tends to be a defect, such as Exhurst, BOV, Lowered, Air filter, FMI n gauges n etc...

In order to get these legal, u have to go and get an engineer certificate from a registered engineer, the rta should have a list of approved engineers,

If you need to ask anyting else, feel free to ask dude, I've been defect a few times in the past, and its a pain in the A$$ to get it cleared

my point exactly...
hope this helps some people
generalisation of defects: either breach of ADR, or uncomplied/engineered modification (ie turbo conversion etc)

ADR breaches/to comply to:
Too loud- ADR28
External vent BOV/unenclosed pod- ADR28, ADR37
Too low- ADR42/ADR43.

bah, sick of doing this now... other things you can be done for:
gauges (must be mounted below top line of the steering wheel, not obscure any factory guages, and be situated further towards windshield than the steering wheel. ie twin A pillars are a no-no.. but cops will often let you off on this one, depening on if they got laid recently or not...

distractions to other drivers (neons, strobes, anything other than headlights or blinkers firing forwards, and foggies if it isnt foggy)

incorrect instrumentation markings (no "h" pattern).

that'll do for now, i know there are some others...
